Honestly we only wanted to check it out because we were curious because the reviews are very all over the place. Also just moved here in the spring and we love Chinese food so we ordered a bit of everything that we love. We thought it was expensive at first but after eating our food and being full faster than we expected and it lasting three meals over all for people that have big appetites, we enjoyed it so much. We love Chinese food but it doesn't always sit well, especially all of the ones in Vernon. Which upset us a bit but having this last night is smelt amazing when we picked it up and they also were super friendly! She gave us a box for our order so the bags didn't break. Also never made us sick at all!!! Plus I'm super deathly allergic to tomatoes and before I was badly allergic to that I used to love sweet and sour pork but all of Vernon locations and most Chinese food restaurants use all tomato based sauce for sweet and sour pork. So I was super excited when we were told that nothing from what we ordered had tomatoes in it. I haven't been able to enjoy Chinese food for a long time and we will definitely be recommending this place for friends and family when they come to visit. Also the lemon chicken sauce tasted authentic and not like lemon syrup like most places we loved it even more. Yes it may seem pricey too a lot of people based on what we saw on the reviews but you're definitely paying for the quality of food and it makes you feel more full too which shouldn't matter too much if it's so delicious too. Also did I mention it's MSG Free!! This place is great, I hope more people try it and actually give it a shot.
Went in expecting a "mall food court" level lunch and was disappointed. Very salty, rice wasn't fresh and the sauce was straight out of a can. I tried to find a combo plate that included vegetables but had no luck. I tried to add them on as a side but they said I could only order the full dish. Really quite forgettable. Lunch combo was $10.95 but really I found it worth $5-6.
We ordered from the online menu, dinner for six- $79.95, three extra dishes expecting a bill of about $110 with add ons. I went to pay and they asked for $176. I almost died. I challenged the price based on menu online, oh the prices changed was the response. Then why were we not told when we ordered. He shrugged his shoulders. The quality of the food was obscene. We threw it all in the garbage.
Sent us rotten food and now won’t reply or return our messages for a partial refund. Should be a full refund but I said I would do a partial refund just to be nice. ‍ $85 down the drain for 5 items off there menu the prices are expensive but wouldn’t have been as bad if the food was great I’m surprised this place is still open! We tried a bite of each dish and threw it all out. Chicken was not real chicken weird rubbery pieces of white mush, ginger beef was clearly old, hard pieces of dark meat and the sauce was thin and watery and tasteless oddest looking ginger beef I have ever seen , kung pao chicken was flavourless, literally zero heat!, the containers of food were all half full and filled with what looked like canned or frozen veggies, the soup was full on rancid! War of wonton soup with soggy disgusting wontons that I took one bite into and had to spit it out because the inside smelt like a toilet. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE SICK AND WASTE A TOOOOON OF MONEY.
This was by far, the biggest waste of money and the worst chinese food experience my family has had......ever. I have never seen processed chicken loaf served as chicken chow mien. Upon inquiring about was told this is how they served it and everyone else loves it. Absolutely disgusting and inedible. Watered down sweet and sour pork and overcooked almond chicken just add insult to injury. Needless to say, we threw it all in the trash, where it should have went before we spent money on it. The few bites we were brave enough to try, undoubtedly shortened our life spans. I will continue to try and save anyone from making the same mistake we did. Just to leave it on a high note, the waitress was a shining light in an otherwise dismall and dated establishment.
I have been lucky with ordering food from here but recently I had a disappointment with my food order. The chop suey veggies were so overcooked that they were mushy and the luke warm dry garlic ribs were tough. The gf rice and sesame chicken was good but the quality just wasn't there this time :
Thought I’d add my two cents here, for what it’s worth. We’ve been customers since moving to Lumby in 2007. Through ownership changes, floods and now COVID, the food has been consistently very good and the service fast and friendly. Sure, we have had a couple orders that weren’t stellar for one reason or another, but the vast majority have been good to excellent. I believe a small town like Lumby is lucky to have this restaurant!
Been going here for years, the food is freshly prepared and the staff are always polite and friendly. I give four stars because although their food is good, i find that the price has gone up a fair bit and the portions seem to have gotten a little smaller, other than that, it's a great place to eat!
Thank you for the awesome food and service over the years. Whether a family meal or a corporate lunch for 60, you have done a fantastic job. Thank you very much! Lumby & Vernon are very lucky to have you!
Love it here my go to for Chinese food.
