The course was mostly in good shape but a few holes the greens were in terrible condition. The cart oath in many spots was also in terrible condition. The staff were awesome and the facilities were clean. I know courses get rough at the end of the season but this was beyond that. We saw a group of white tail deer, a gaggle of Canadian geese and two young coyotes, the wildlife were on display today.
First time playing the course ever today, was all I hoped it'd be. It was a raining and windy day but the course played true. Can't compare it to any other time but she seemed to be in pretty good shape from what I heard it was. You can feel the history and I will be bringing my young sons to play this short gem. Highly recommend playing this course at least once. Amazing course for the price.
Played 9 holes at the course on a Saturday evening that it was sprinkling, me and 3 of my buddies were playing and taking our time as we were the only ones on the course. On the 5th hole the employee on duty came out and told us we were playing above pace. We said you mean below and she rudely argued and said to speed it up. We mentioned the clubhouse sign states last carts in by 830 and it was 7. She argued nonsense because it seemed like she wanted to go home. She sat behind us the rest of the round and watched as we played. Very unprofessional especially in the sport of golf. They also didn’t sell golf balls. Very strange course and an awful clubhouse.
I love the course and everything about it expect for the fact that it’s full of these little high school kids who either slow down the game every time or start pushing up on you. They’ll shoot the ball right at you and not even yell Fore at all. I’ve seen two of them purposely destroy the green when they were putting by taking a chunk off of it. I’ve also seen them play bumper carts and spin their carts out
This review is for 2019 only. I can’t tell if the course was in such a good shape prior to this year, and I won’t be able to predict the course would maintain current status next year, either. I played front 9 hole there with my buddy after work a week ago, it was a beautiful day, and the course indeed was in an excellent shape for a public course IMO. Access the course is not too bad if you don’t follow the iPhone navigation system. Get onto the Ottawa Pkwy either through Bancroft St. or Upton Ave. near S. Cove Blvd and you will find the park entrance on the Ottawa Pkwy. Try not get onto N. Cove Blvd because that only gets you to the Toledo Police Department. Cost was $37 before tax for two players with a golf cart, which is not cheap compared to the time when Arthur Hills played there during his youth. The green is less challenging with less slope compared to the Detwiler Golf Course, however, the frequent elevation changes make the course equally or more challenging to the less experienced players like myself. Thank to the open fairway on this course, I only lost one golf ball that day when hitting the ball into the woods. Now, let’s talk about the downsides. The course is a public course and close to a major traffic road, which is the hole 2 green and hole 3 tee box located. Anticipate there’s some less patient drivers might horn at the cars in front of them while you are putting or driving. Also, the park location is not ideal for people to stay either too early or too late. Bottom line is, I would definitely recommend this course to my friends, family, and coworkers to have a good time there. Actually, I’d like to go back to finish the back 9 hole if the weather permits this weekend.
Much better experience since new management took over in the last year! More dead trees cleared and better flood management so far. Thank you for caring about playability, not just making money. The course will earn it's 5th Star when the bunkers get sand...!
I've been playing this course since the early 70s. Still love it for its diversity in its layout and scenery. But please fix the tee boxes. They are a disgrace for such a historic course. On many holes it is nearly impossible to find the ladies tee boxes.because they don't exist. That is unless you count 2 beat up, unpainted markers laying in scrub grass. Also, the sand traps could be better tended with playable sand and some of the greens could be better maintained. Toledo's jewel of a histiric course deserves better attention. But at $22 senior rate, it is a steal. Still one of my favorite courses. Just needs and deserves a bit more TLC which would easily rank it at 5 stars.
Good course. Nice wide fairways, which are hard. Lots of elevation changes which made it nice. The 17th is a nice hole with water on your right. Beware of the creek on the 18th, it will swallow your ball. Overall a great local course. I would definitely play gain.
Booked a tee time For this course and was super excited to play this course. Arrive early for my tee time, only to find out that the course was closed for wet conditions. Super disappointed as it made me scramble to find another place to play. Mainly I would have liked a courtesy call so I could have made other arrangements. Just poor customer service
This is a beautiful, old-fashioned, and very playable golf course. It has reasonably wide fairways, impeccable greens, and lots of mature trees. If you're an average golfer you'll enjoy it. If you're a good golfer you'll shoot low numbers. Either way, it's fun.
