I am so angry. I’m so sad. The beautiful cat i rescued last weekend who I brought into the humane society because I felt like it was the right thing to do and I trusted them, put him down without even a good explanation. I had been looking him up and following up with him everyday on his profile and last night his picture was gone from the website. I emailed them to make sure he was okay and they called me this morning. The lady on the phone didn’t even have a care in the world and said he was put down do to “decline in health” I asked her to explain and she didn’t even know why he got put down. Long story short, he got put down for “behavioural issues” and they apparently couldn’t get near him and that he was too “feral”. He also wasnt using his litter box. He was only there for 4 days of course we was going to do all of this and isnt adoptable yet? Hes terrified. I know I only had him for one night but he was so sweet. He hissed because he was SCARED the world failed him so bad. He fell asleep to me petting him probably feeling love for the very first time in his entire life. They told me he was probably only 3 years old. He had every opportunity in the world to bite or scratch me when I was handling him grabbing him from under a car in a dark parking lot in the freezing rain. But he never did. I wish they called me at least to see if I could foster him or find someone or brought him to a different rescue. I feel so angry that I brought him to the OHS if I knew this was going to be his outcome. This is a lesson learned. Do not bring your animals to the OHS.
We can't express enough gratitude for the staff here who were very patient and helpful with us as we chose our new dog. We were provided with accurate and helpful information by a team of people who really care about the animals. -Meaghan, Joey, and Bella
The Ottawa Humane Society is hands down the most professional, organized, and compassionate organization we’ve ever dealt with. From the very beginning, the adoption process was simple, straightforward, and handled with such care. We filled out a quick form, and to our surprise, we heard back right away. The staff truly take the time to ensure both the animals and adopters are the right match, and you can tell how much they care about the wellbeing of every single cat and dog in their care.nWhat really stood out to us was how friendly and transparent the team was. They kept us informed at every step, answered all of our questions without hesitation, and made us feel so supported through the process. When we visited, the environment was clean, welcoming, and filled with animals that were clearly well cared for and loved.nEven though kittens are in such high demand, the staff went above and beyond to guide us and help us find the perfect fit for our family. We felt valued and respected from the very start, which is so rare to find.nIf you’re thinking about adopting, donating, or supporting an animal welfare organization, look no further. The Ottawa Humane Society sets the standard for how it should be done. We’re beyond grateful for our experience and would recommend them to anyone without hesitation!
We went to the humane society this weekend to meet some cats for adoption. We were greeted by Danica who was amazing throughout the whole process. She was friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and patient! She answered all our questions, and more, giving us all the information needed about the adoption process and the individual cats we were looking at. She definitely went above and beyond to make this experience so amazing, and you could tell she truly cares for the animals and loves working there! We are so happy to bring home our new friend Juubi, who is already the sweetest boy!
Do not bring an animal here if it has the slightest issues or just anything with health because clearly this place doesn’t care at all. My girlfriend dropped off this cat that we found in a wet cold puddle in a parking lot he was obviously scared and confused on what was going on, but eventually he got more comfortable with us, and we were literally petting him and holding him. So we brought him to this place and not even four days later they put him down due to his behavior he is not threatening at all. He would never even try to bite. He would just hiss because he was scared. And the fact that one of the reasons was, he wasn’t using his litter box like are you kidding me? It’s a stray. He’s obviously not gonna know how to use a litter box in four days so just a heads up to people bringing strays to this place. They clearly don’t care enough for the animals and just give up super easily. I DO NOT recommend at all and from seeing other people‘s reviews, they don’t care to call you if they’re putting it down or any updates at all. That’s about all I have to say is this place clearly doesn’t actually care about animals they just want money. I don’t care what you have to say, Animals are living things and should be treated the same way as people. Moral of the story this place will KILL/put down your animal if it’s even the slightest sick or any little bad behavior and DO NOT CARE ABOUT STRAYS
