Othello Tunnels
"**The Othello Tunnels are currently closed**In the early 1900s, the Canadian Pacific Railway decided a route was necessary to link the Kootenay Region with the BC coast by rail. The railway was built over three mountain ranges. In the Coquihalla Gorge – the river cut a 300 foot deep channel of solid granite. A straight line of tunnels were built through it which are known now as the Othello Tunnels. There are spectacular viewing opportunities available on the trail, through the tunnels and on the bridges. This park highlights the Kettle Valley Railway grade that passes through the canyon and 5 tunnels which were built in 1914."

It was my first best experience. We went to tunnel from kettle valley side which is a long walk until you reach the tunnel but with mesmerizing views n forest walk. Once you reach the tunnel you will see the gates closed but all the people including us trespassed through gate and from that point best part start. It’s 4 tunnels in total with great view at the end n between the tunnels. Make sure to carry torch as tunnels are dark although flashlight will work too but torches will be best. They r open go visit before rain I was there on may 1, 2022
We went here last fall season and there is not much people walking and there is a lot of parking space. We also experience visiting this place in summer season and the parking lot is so full and need to wait to get a parking. There is a washroom in the entrance of the trail. Overall this trail park is good for kids and old people cause its flat.
By far one of the best places to see around Vancouver. It's an hour and 45 mins drive from our place but it's absolutely worth it. It's sad to see the destruction caused by the floods. I believe it's currently closed because it's getting some renovations done and it won't be opening any time soon but can't recommend it enough whenever it opens back up. One of the most beautiful places to see around Vancouver and the drive is great as well. You can stop by in Chilliwack on the way to pick up some honey, they are famous for it.
What a great place to get out and stretch my legs after getting off the island. Parking was a bit touch and go but I was able to get a sweet spot up front. The walk to the tunnels was pretty flat so most people should be able to do it. Just happened to be a beautiful day so the water looked this amazingly blue/green color. Walking over the bridges and checking out the water down below was breathtaking. Highly recommended for all ages and worth the visit. I will be back again on my next pass through..
The park is closed for 2022. We went anyway. Absolutely no work had been done so far to repair the damage caused by a flood. It's mostly going to stay closed for quite a while. It's beautiful, it's grandiose and it's scary. Loved it.
The abandoned train tunnel is so charming. The views of cliffs and canyon are amazing. Abandoned tunnels can help us reach deeper into the mountains. I really feel a very novel feeling here. This is a very recommendable tourist attraction.
Beautiful, really worth a visit, very interesting. I haven’t seen signs telling facts about it though. Lots of people so I’m guessing peak hours on weekends are probably a bit chaotic since parking is quite limited. Went on a late Sunday afternoon and was fine. More shots & videos at @maluzizz.
Pristine, stunning and absolutely raw beauty awaits you here at Othello tunnels. An amazing hour and half drive from downtown. Icy raging waters and jaggerdy rocks make for a stunning scenery. The tunnels themselves are mesmerizing. Make sure to read about them before you enter, they will give you a new found respect for all the hard work the railroad engineers and construction workers put into making this a reality. Also don't miss the tunnel with the windows ! Absolutely delightful
Amazing views once you start walking through the tunnel. Walk is around a km, but its all worth the effort. The view of the Coquihalla canyon is extremely picturesque and breadth taking with blue waters. Some picnic tables also available.
Amazing place that has a combination of natural beauty and human construction! Going through all five tunnels is like a surreal adventure and the beautiful views between each tunnel is breathtaking. The trail before and after the tunnels are also beautiful and easy to walk! Don’t miss this place if you are driving from Calgary to Vancouver. Parking is convenient but space is limited. Highly recommend!
