Ortega's

Was closed for several months, so found other places to eat. Now it is back open, but already have dependable places to eat.

Excellent food. Large portions and reasonable prices. They are very friendly and the wait is not long considering the work they put into their food. The building isn't very big so it's quite crowded at regular meal times. Although there is a large covered deck out back overlooking the river in good weather. The place is very clean. Not much parking but a spot close by is usually not hard to find

Out exploring the mountains around Mt Shasta and got hungry. Stopped into Ortega's based on lack of options and good reviews. As many Mexican restaurants go this is a family run business. It is small and cozy and the servers are friendly and polite. Chips and salsa were very good, with the chips being light and crispy. Tried the Chicken chimichanga based on others reviews and found it to be good.... not great but good. The amazing dish was the fried ice cream.... I have tried many and most taste stale like they were made yesterday. This was fresh and crispy like it was made to order.... I highly recommend it! A single scoop of vanilla ice cream covered in something like crushed corn flakes then deep fried. This is then put into a fried flour tortilla "bowl" and the whole concoction is sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon with a dollop of whipped cream on top and drizzled with chocolate syrup!

Perfect service friendly family atmosphere, and the food is deliciously surprising. 6 stars
