We took the vegan cooking class…..it was like getting to learn that old “secret family recipe” that everyone loves! We learned by watching and writing down important tips as Kedi and her partner talked about the ingredients, when to add them, and how important quality spices are. We also helped chop, add ingredients and of course took turns stirring the mixture so we could feel and smell the difference as the food changed textures and smells during the cooking process. We got to see how the Injera is cooked and once everything was all was done, Kedi presented a taste of our dish in the traditional way for all to share. The red lentil Miser wet was so flavourful with just the right amount of heat! We are going back for another class. The commercial kitchen is in the lower level of a home turned business and is large enough for 4-6 people to watch, participate and learn. Don’t forget to bring your note pad you’ll want to write all Kedi’s tips and recipes down on paper. We also bought the spices so we could create the dish at home!! Parking: Parking on the street in front of the house. So around to the back to enter to the down stairs kitchen.
Fantastic gem! So cool that it is in a house, beautiful family owned business, so friendly! Great food! Clean and great presentation. Can't say enough good things.
Interesting location in a repurposed duplex. The furnishings are a bit uncomfortable after a time and the location is not where you would expect to find a restaurant but don't be put off by either. The food was very good and the service was very friendly and extremely accommodating for one of our group of 4 who is celiac. The cook was very aware of gluten intolerance issues and took extra care to avoid cross contamination on everything. She apologized that they could have made gluten-free bread if we had made reservations earlier in the week because it takes three days to "ferment" the dough. All in All, the food was good the service excellent and the street parking free. also...FYI: they are licensed to serve wine and beer. Bottom line is: We would go again.
First experience with Ethiopian cuisine. My first instinct was a bit skeptical since I've never been to a restaurant inside a house before, but maybe I should go to more house restaurants since it was a great experience all around. The food is seriously tasty. We ordered 1 each of the beef, chicken, red lentil, and yellow lentil. Everything was delicious, and the sauce on the chicken is amazing. Not even sure how to describe it but I'd say it's kind of like Indian and Mexican fusion. You all sit and eat from the same plate with your hands by scooping with teff flat breads. It's incredibly filling, but not the gross heavy feeling like pasta or something. Highly recommended!!
Love this place. We went last night. The owners are wonderful and take pride in their food, heritage, and restaurant. We had an amazing experience here. The food is to die for. The flavors are the best Ethiopian we've had in Edmonton. Definitely will be back. THIS IS A MUST TRY IN EDMONTON
I stopped by here one dark and snow stormy night. The place was empty but, the door was open and the owner welcomed us warmly and opened the kitchen for us. I love Ethiopian food but some of my guests had never tried it and were wary. She made some fabulous suggestions and we gladly accepted them. It was a wonderful meal, and a great introduction for people that have not tried Ethiopian food before. And the coffee!!! I LOVE Ethiopian coffee. There’s no better way to spend a snowstorm than enjoying the view out the window from this restaurant with a belly full of fabulous food and a cup her amazing coffee. Thank you for a perfect evening!
When you first pull up and see that it is in a duplex, dont turn away! We had a wonderful experience! We were served right away by a lovely lady, she explained the menu in detail and helped us choose what to order. The first course was a garden salad, with a peppery vinaigrette. Then came the main course, which was a variety of lentil, peas and meat dish. Every dish was amazing, very flavourful, just enough spice. if you do not enjoy spicy food, you could ask them to tone it down for you. We had the best service, and the best meal! Don't miss out on this hidden gem! I took the honey cake home for later as we were so full from our wonderful meal, and that is a delicacy! I recommend getting it, if you don't have room take it home!.
Incredible Tasty Food. This restaurant is run out of a house that has been remodeled into a cozy, yet modern, home environment eatery. It feels like family is feeding you there best as the husband and wife bustle around to prepare the legitimately homemade meals. They are kind, helpful and full of joy. The house, full of bright colors and warm spices, feels welcoming and fresh. As soon as I got home I purchased an Ethiopian cook book, so I could attempt to recreate the magic of their kitchen in my own. For a family of 4 shared platter, mango drinks, coffee and dessert I paid around $70 for the meal and an added 18% tip. It’s not cheap but it is worth every penny if you want a genuine exotic experience that will leave you feeling both full and happy. I brought two children as well and though a bit cautious at first, after the first few tastes, dove in and loved everything. I will go back every few months now for this wonderful gem, a refreshing option in Edmonton.
Great experience. Wonderful service. They were very friendly. The food was great! Love the spices and the aromatics coming from the kitchen. There's both vegan and meat options. Try it out, you will be impressed!
Amazing. My daughter is vegan and gluten free and my sister is allergic to garlic, so eating out is tricky. The owners of Olympia welcomed us and found out all of our preferences. The food was flavourful, and we loved every dish. Highly recommended!
