My husband and son ate there about two years ago and didn't receive much ketchup with their meal. When they asked for more, the owner said he would have to charge for it. "I'm a businessman," he told them. We haven't been back since and we used to be regulars, even though the price kept going up. Was it worth losing regiular customers who try to.support local businesses? Also, he false advertises. Has a sign in the window that says, "Best fish and chips in BC. Diners poll winner 3rd year in a row." Try to find that poll somewhere online. In all the legitimate online polls, this restaurant does not come up anywhere. Liars will not get our business.
We ordered dinner there and about puked when we found massive flying bugs inside not just my fish and chips, but my daughters as well! When we called the owner over, he said that we all picked up the dead bugs from the window sill and put them in our barely touched dinners! That's exactly what we went to a restaurant for! To play with dead bugs?? This place needs to close down!!! Not just because of its bug infestation, but for this kind of response from the actual owner!!
I don't usually do reviews, but I feel compelled to warn others about this place because the food and service was so bad. I used to eat at this place years ago and the food was amazing. My Mom and I were driving past here and thought we'd give it a try. Restaurant was empty at 5pm, I should have taken that as a clue and ate somewhere else. The Owner although maybe trying to be friendly had an aggresive way about him that made me feel uncomfortable in his presence. It was the way he looked at me and then he made a comment about how young I look. I do look young, but I don't appreciate getting the full head to toe scan by some strange man. I should explain I am a 37 year old woman using my husband's yelp account Anyway, against our better judgement we decided to eat here anyway. My halibut and chips was ok, small but ok....but my Mom's cod was rubbery, greasy and ultra fishy in a bad way and disgustingly mushy. I was afraid my Mom would get food poisoning it tasted so bad, so I told her not to eat it and I'd take her somewhere else for food. To top it off, while we ate the owner sat behind the counter within 10 ft from us playing a shooting game on his phone at maximum volume. Seriously? Upon leaving I told the owner we weren't happy with the cod but he insisted I still pay full price even though my Mom barely ate it because "that was just our opinion that it tasted bad". It came to about $30 for the 2 of us. I could have saved us money, avoided the awkward restaurant situation and eaten better if I'd gone to the grocery store and bought frozen fish and chips to baked it myself. We will not be going back here.
My favourite fish and chips place. The owner is friendly and he cooks his food correct. The scallops are perfectly done and not chewy, the fish is flaky and the serving sizes are generous. It's a good small home town restaurant opposed to a large chain. Love this place.
Worst restaurant experience of my life! When my friends and I arrived at the run down cash only restaurant we were starving from our trip to Vancouver. When we went to order drinks we asked for beer but he was out so we all ordered water and the owner made a comment about how we couldn't afford the pop. He proceeded to discuss his views on discipline with us. He asked us if we knew what the problem with our society is.......His answer Caucasians! I've never experienced racism like that before. After he said that we all walked out and will never go back. It's 2016 leave your racist views out of the workplace.
The worst fish and chips I have ever had. We ordered dinner for 2 to go which costed us $40 so pretty pricey for fish and chips, then he forgot to give us our gravy, pop, forks. fish and chips were very soggy bland, gravy was very runny. Don't recommend at all.
My dad and I went in there for lunch abit ago, and while I admit the food is good I asked the owner how his day was going. He went of on a total rant over our whole lunch about how pathetic and lazy white boyskids are nowadays. It was actually sickening. I'm assuming he's a color blind idiot. When I told him my boys weren't lazy and that even my 15 year old was working, I was told to "put him in the army," if he was going to become anything useful. Total loser as far as im concerned. If my dad hadn't been there I would have told him exactly what I thought of him. I wouldn't eat there if I was starving. Racist piece of garbage
Do not eat here! The owner is an obnoxious, opinionated pig. He only takes cash so you know he isn't paying taxes. You can't eat in peace without him yapping on about his opinion on everything from women to politics to how he'd fix everything that's wrong with the world. I just came in for some lunch not a frickin lecture from a moronic self righteous buffoon. It's time to run this idiot out of town.
RUDE owner. I don't usually write negative reviews, But this guy is totally out of line. I will NOT support his business, He obviously needs to learn some manners and how to deal with customers. Did not buy any food and will not be returning.
