Tried this place for the first time and it was great! The waitress was super friendly and the food was delicious. It has a variety of food options, some that are unique. I ordered the classic cafe breakfast and I was impressed that it wasn’t greasy at all like some other breakfast joints. We’ll definitely be back another time!
I have been to the Oakwood Café several times, but this is my first review of the restaurant.nBefore I get into what is great about this gem in South Osborne I will start by mentioning the two things I find that are not so great.nWhen the restaurant is full, which is quite often, it can be a little bit noisy.nnThe other thing is the view isn’t exactly spectacular out the windows of the restaurant. A parking lot and traffic is about all you will see.nnNow for the good stuff.nThe ambiance in this restaurant is absolutely wonderful .nThe tables are spaced far enough apart, that you are not encroaching on anyone else’s experience .nnThe ambient music played in the background is not loud and one can easily hear what another person may be saying .nThe service is fun and on point.nThis time, as with my other visits, the server was bubbly and eager, too help .nnOn this occasion, I ordered a two egg breakfast complete with coffee.nThe pricing was on par with other restaurants, and the food was better than expected.nThe eggs were wonderful, the bacon which was ordered crisp, came that way .nAnd the toast one of my pet peeves at restaurants was buttered edge to edge, as if the person making it was going to be eating it.nI can’t tell you how many restaurants I’ve been to where there is just a little smear of butter in the middle of dry toast.nThe server did not pester me at all, but was very attentive at the right times to see if I needed anything.nnIt’s hard to describe the atmosphere of the Oakwood Café. You have to go there.nMore than once!nHighly recommended .
Have not been to the Oakwood for several year but still had the same great food and attentive staff. I decided on the chicken and waffles and it was delish! Topped with two over hard eggs, white gravy and syrup and sprinkled with chorizo sausage. Lots of flavours; sweet and spicy and textures crispy and soft and pillowy it all came together wonderfully. It did not look like a lot of food but I was more than satisfied and I’d definitely have again but I need to try some other entrees.
Overpriced!!!nOrdered beef brisket something last item on the breakfast menu. It was so rubbery. Very unpleasant experience. Looking at rush in the restaurant, I might have ordered the wrong item. But when you are paying premium, you expect something good or expect effort or quality material to be put into making the good.
It was a cute little place with a pretty unique menu. And I’ve heard a lot of good things so I wanted to try it. I hadn’t ever looked at the menu before and couldn’t make a choice right away. I ended up getting the Crown and Coke burger because it was a tossup between getting the brisket on the menu or a burger. And there is a piece of brisket on this burger so I get the best of both worlds. The burger was thick and juicy, and had a lot of flavour coming from the dried onion as well as the way they braise the meat in the crown royal and Coke definitely infuses it with a unique taste. The bun was a little bit greasy and seem to have soaked up a lot of the sauce, which I didn’t really like. I had a poutine on the side, and I couldn’t finish it because I thought that the gravy was pretty salty. I ended up getting a child size mac & cheese for my child and it was actually very decent portion. It was cheesy and delicious.
