Our winter visit to O’Keefe Ranch with the family and grandparents was very positive. We enjoyed exploring, seeing the scenic buildings covered in snow, and imaging life in 1860’s. The staff were very friendly and the tours were well done and worth our time. The winter theme and holiday decorations were very cheerful and gave a unique feel to our visit. They even had Father Christmas to greet the kids!
I found this place by chance, just wanting to visit Vernon and I'm so glad I did! We entered through the main gift shop and our greeter was dressed in the attire of the period. We got a map of the ranch, which is a good thing as the grounds were much larger than expected. So much history, and they've kept the buildings and the equipment so well, it displays beautifully. And did I mention there's a candy story in what used to be the old Post Office? So delightful! Spend a couple hours to take it all in.
This was such a wonderful amazing experience to walk back in time and see how people lived and worked so hard. Life looked to be simple but you worked for everything that you had The displays are amazing lots of history to see I recommend this to anybody and their families . I even have some family history at O'Keeffe Ranch with the Schubert house.
Very nice attraction just off the highway. We stopped by out of curiosity and were glad that we did. Entry is by donation, they suggest $10 per person. It’s a time capsule back to a long-forgotten era where a white colonizer established a ranch on the unceded territory of the indigenous peoples. He hired them to be cowboys, doing gruelling labour as ranchers and sleeping in squalid, basic conditions while he spent his days in a lavish mansion with his 3 wives, one of which was an indigenous woman. He was given hundreds of acres of land for free by the BC government at the time. It’s an utterly depressing story, but I give full points for the preservation of these relics. It’s an important reminder of BC’s dark roots and provides a glimpse into the truly horrifying history of the country. There are people dressed up in full garb and are fully in character. There’s even a postmaster who might have a letter for you when you drop by the general store! A lot of original items and artifacts 100+ years old. Worth a stop.
I had such a lovely time here. Walking around, talking to everyone and looking at all the exhibits. They were all so fascinating. The people that were working in the various exhibits were so well informed and you could tell they were personally invested in the stories and in the heritage of this site. I personally want to thank the milkmaid who spent some extra time talking to me about the community, both historically and present. Thank you so much. The land has so much history. I hope all of your families stay safe.
I have never been to O' Keefe during daytime before. It has a lot of pioneer Era stuff kicking around--more than anywhere else in Vernon. They have a general store with candy and an old school oven jawbreakers no longer sold here. A church for weddings, a building with a large model railway, a Haunted house for kids in the basement, and a one-room school can all be found here. There is a daytime corn maze for families, but super unclear as to where one should go after exiting. We accidentally entered the staging area for the nighttime mazes. We eventually looped back to the O'Keefe entrance. There is a fun free tractor ride around the property. Goats and sheep are free to pet. There are a couple of food trucks operating. The restaurant is no longer here it moved to Armstrong. Overall, not a bad place to take a family visiting from out of town!
Had a great time! The lady who gave the tour of the mansion was very knowledgeable and informative about the fascinating history of the house and family! The two gentlemen working in the general store were very enjoyable and played their period parts excellently! They told us many interesting things about the old-fashioned tools and merchandise in the store! A very enjoyable afternoon! :
A great place to go with family! They have a good corn maze. I guess you can visit the corn maze from Summer. It’s easy to pass this spot. We did not notice it in many years. So glad we went there this year. Check their website for more info.
What an amazing historical adventure. Entrance by donation. The fun starts right from the beginning. Rent a fancy umbrella to twirl yourself around the grounds. Enter the many homes, stores and buildings and experience the days of the past. The staff are fabulous and have so much history to share.
It was awesome! The staff are so friendly and the experience is amazing! Also, if you do any one thing, do the tractor ride! It is awesome!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
