"Built in 1893, Canmore's North-West Mounted Police detachment brings to life one of Canada’s oldest and most iconic stories, the story of the North-West Mounted Police. Canmore was a mining town and mining was a difficult and dirty job. With it came a “work hard, play hard” mentality and liquor and other vices were prominent as a result. The Canmore NWMP outpost was established to keep these in check for the benefit of both the mine companies and the local community. The Canmore NWMP Barracks is open seasonally. From May 19 to September 4 2023, visitors can explore each of the Barrack's five rooms to discover the early story of Canada's Mounted Police in the Rocky Mountains. Open for special events and programs in the off-season."

It is a great place to learn about the law keeping programs that we had in place. Fun history lessons. The entrance was by donation. Thanks for making it easy and fun for kids to learn about the past.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A small building but full of great history of this great country. Well worth spending some time here! With Covid 19 precautions there was a wee bit of a wait but it wasn't too long. There was a gracious host on the veranda who kept us entertained.
This quaint shop is a must stop. It is a tiny building with an extremely knowledgeable woman who is charming. It has a lovely gift shop as you walk in, three rooms set up like a Mountie might have lived in the past, and a bigger than life cutout of a Mountie you can take your picture with. Just taking your picture with the "Mountie" is worth the effort.
The museum doesn’t stay open for long …we where unable again to visit the museum because it was closedVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Very cool to see this. I love history and they did a good job with telling the story of this place. Definitely give it a look if your in the area. Its not very time consuming and you can get through it with good detail in about 1 hour.
Awesome place!
I'm a volunteer attendant at the Barracks, and I have fun there telling visitors the stories of our town. It's Canmore's third-oldest building and full of history.
A neat little piece of history. Staff are knowledgeable and can give you a taste of what life was like a century ago in Canmore.
Interesting spot could possibly do more with the surrounding park. The Art in the Park thing was poor quality stuff not worth a look at all.
Real Canadian history at it's finest
