We drove the Dempster Highway to Inuvik in July 2013 in a heavily loaded minivan (we were on our way to paddle the Horton river). We were driving on all season tires near the end of their life, and ended up getting flats in two of them along the way. Fortunately we had brought 2 of our winter tires as spares, so we got to Inuvik ok. We decided to replace the two flat tires with new ones for the drive back to Calgary, but there were none available in Inuvik. However, Raymond Wainman at Northwind Tire Sales and Towing Service did have some on order that he expected to arrive while we were on the Horton. He suggested that when the tires came in, he could pick up our vehicle from the airport, put the new tires on, and then return the vehicle to the airport. This is exactly what he did, and it saved us a lot of time getting going back. Raymond had been recommended to us by others in Inuvik, and we found him very straightforward to deal with.
