5 stars is what I would have given this place 10+ years ago. I used to love this place when it was a Diner. However, the upscale atmosphere and price, has made me look for other options.
Love this little cafe. A bit like a step back in time. Perfect place for lunch on a visit to Winterset shops and covered bridges, I love taking out-of-town guests there. Food is great. It’s just a really sweet place.
Absolutely wonderful place for lunch or dinner. Last time we were there, my wife had the grilled cheese for the first time. Hard to see her moving off that on the toasted homemade bread! The best she’s ever had.

Excellent place on the historic town square of Winterset. The food, staff, and atmosphere are excellent! My mother, who is from Macksburg, came here when she was a little girl, I love it! In fact, I'll be driving down there from Des Moines today for lunch!
It has been a long time since I have been at Northside Cafe as I moved out of state, but some of my very best memories are sharing a GIANT platter of the best onion rings on this planet with my brother after school. If I make it back to Winterset, it will be one of my first stops!
Northside Cafe is excellent! We go through Winterset 4 times a year and ALWAYS stop in. Beautiful Cafe in an amazing historic building. Best tenderloin in iowa!
Great food with equally great service. Everything is made, homemade style. I just wish they were open more often. Still my favorite place is town.
Eaten there for years. Great food with a classic diner vibe. Always get a good meal and usually a good conversation to go with it!
