Our negative experience was limited and very specific. We were traveling, had made a reservation here, and on the day we would have arrived at this motel, we wanted to change our destination because we weren't covering the distance each day as we had hoped. They have a "policy" and we understood that. The problem is that we emailed them several times during that day, using the same email address on their website that had gotten us an immediate response originally, but they didn't reply. We don't have cell phones and they even knew, and seemed to appreciate, that fact during our original conversation. We were on the road, stopping at restaurants and coffee shops taking time out of our travels to email them and ask if they would or would not allow us to cancel our reservation. It was a question. We still had options at that point. They never replied to the emails. Not once all day and late into the night did they apparently check their email. We were close enough, just south of Northome, by the end of the day and we could have stayed there that night, but we decided it was too risky since we had sent so many emails that day. We did not want to drive the extra hour north to this location only to find out they'd rented our room at that point. Now I wish we had, for several reasons. We will never know whether or not they did rent it to someone else, but the very next morning they emailed us to let us know they had charged us for the room. We explained the situation and that we would be willing to compromise with them, split the charge, etc... and what we received were long rambling emails about the national standards of email reply timelines, the presence of landlines along the highway, etc... We were basically attacked and blamed because we didn't use the phone to contact them. That is why the negative review is here. The response we got from them was to simply dodge the fact that they didn't reply to our emails all day long and instead to come up with a variety of silly excuses for why this is all our fault. First, it's their policy, etc... Then, it's our fault for not using a telephone to contact them. The fact that they change their argument is what upset us so much. They seemed to be more concerned about them being right, us being wrong, and them keeping the money than admitting that they should be checking their business email during the day. All of this when they were still technically in the right to charge us since we didn't show up. So, beware if you have to deal with these people. They'll change their story and arguments in a conflict so that they're 100% right and you're 100% wrong and that's extremely annoying, not to mention invalid reasoning. We cannot say whether this is a good motel, a good deal, or not. We would simply warn travelers to be very careful about making reservations with this motel and to be very vigilant about your communications and methods of communication with this motel.
