Let me say I loved going to Dr. Ellis. When it became to difficult to see her I went to one of the PAs. Which was good. I have no insurance. But I pay for my office visits with cash. This month I needed an order to get a mammogram. I was told that i needed to come in for a breast exam. That would of cost me over $300. So I made my own appointment for a mammogram which cost me $50. North valley called me to tell me it was normal. Then said I needed a physical. I said no again because I have no insurance.
Anahi is a great medical assistant and I highly recommend her for any of your health care needs. However, the front office needs to work on being nicer to the patients. Overall, great place and will continue coming here for my needs.
Been coming here for 10+ years and today was the most unpleasant experience I’ve ever had. It was my first, and last, time seeing Anna. She was incredibly condescending and rude from the beginning to the end of my appointment. About my visit, my history, my chart, and in general. I’ve seen so many providers in my lifetime. I come from a family of physicians, and that was the most unprofessional behavior I’ve ever seen from a provider. Yikes. Btw, how can you say you “don’t know my history” when your office is the prescriber? Maybe also stop telling people you’ve “only been here for 9 months” too… 9 months is a long time. Now you’re just telling me you don’t know what you’re doing. If your patient is saying something in the chart is incorrect, listen. I think I would know my own medical history. Incompetence sucks. The office is a mess. Every time I come in, there are medications on my list that I’ve never even been on, my records are years outdated, and they don’t have any of my other medical records saved from other medical specialists when I always have them sent over. Hence why I needed to correct the provider, and was only met with pushback. So bad. Just so, so bad. I wish I could leave a different review for Dr. Deborah Hahn, Sandra Soto, and Ashley Schoen. They are quality providers and actually provide care — the only reason I still go to the office.
I have been a patient of Dr. Tanya Ellis' and the North Valley Family Medicine team for over a decade. I have never felt more taken care of by a medical professional the way I am by Dr. Ellis. She is fantastic and also has a well established referral network -- every Doctor she's referred me to is equally as professional and excellent as she is. The office is clean, in a great location and the onsite lab is super convenient. I've referred both family and friends to this office and they've had nothing but good things to say. Thank you Dr. Ellis and team!!!
Do not go to this office. I made an appointment for an establishment of care visit several weeks in advance. The day before my appointment, I called and asked if I would be able to come in with a sore throat. The front office said they would put a sick note for my provider and I could still come in. I knew it was going to be a rough visit when Dr. Sadhu came in and confirmed that I was there for a sore throat. I explained to her that I was there for an establishment of care visit and also happened to have a sore throat. She asked what I wanted her to do during the visit. Um… Ok? You’re the doctor and you don’t know what is supposed to happen during a new patient visit? I told her that I’d like to do whatever one normally does at a new patient visit, including a physical exam. She told me she couldn’t give me a physical exam and that I would have to make ANOTHER appointment to do that. Oh, and by the way, she was leaving the practice in three days so it would have to be with another doctor. Dr. Sadhu went over my medical history and did the usual screenings. Then she asked about the migraine I noted on my forms and I said I was dealing with it on my own. She asked me how and I told her. It lasted 5-10 minutes. When I got home, my husband, who is a primary care doctor, asked me about the appointment and thought my description of it was bizarre. He chalked it up to different practices having different methods but told me it seemed odd that they would ask me to make a second appointment for an exam and that I should not go back there. He didn’t think there was even a billing code for a new patient visit where you don’t get an exam or have a complaint. Fast forward a few weeks, I get a bill for about $100 that insurance didn’t cover. What? I knew that couldn’t be right, so I called and asked how to get my records from the office. The receptionist told me I had to pay my bill before seeing my records. I informed her that I have a legal right to my records, whether or not the bill is paid. Hopefully, a receptionist at a doctor’s office is aware of this basic right, so I assume the office hopes patients don’t know this. Anyway, I got my notes. As it turned out, I got charged for a 30-minute visit with exam and moderately severe patient complaint. Dr. Sadhu’s note had several errors, the most concerning of which are: that I made the appointment for a sore throat complaint, that I received an exam and contradicted itself by saying I needed to make an appointment for an exam, that she helped me make a plan to deal with migraines, and that I have debilitating chronic anxiety. The last of which I was never screened for—and do not have. So, I called the office and asked how it could be changed, and how my bill which reflected the claim that I received an exam and had the anxiety diagnosis could be corrected. I was told that whatever the doctor writes down is what I have to pay for and there is no way to correct the errors on my medical history. Again, I assume a doctor’s office understands basic HIPAA rules, which require doctors to keep accurate records and bill only for services rendered, so maybe this is their way of gouging patients. From other comments, looks like this is a common practice at this office. Their excuse is that the doctor left the practice three days after my appointment. So I was told I could go establish care with her at her new office and ask if she would consider making an amendment to my note. So…your office makes a mistake and I have to take the time and money for a SECOND new patient visit? I don’t think so. After several phone calls, dismissive receptionists and a rude billing department plus an unhelpful phone call from another doctor at the practice, nothing was fixed. Unless you have $100 to throw away on no health care whatsoever, don’t go here. Edit: Today I received, by certified mail, a letter explaining that I am no longer welcome at their office. I guess it’s supposed to be retaliation for this review and attempting to correct my records? Doesn’t matter, since I’d never go here again anyway!
I just visited North Valley Family Medicine August 10th. I and our family have been going to NVFM for over 17 years. Dr. Tanya Ellis is my primary care provider. I have also seen the NP Ashley. Both are wonderful. Dr Ellis takes the time to listen and answers all my questions. I never feel rushed. If Dr Ellis feels something needs to be further analyzed by a specialist, she instantly sets up a referral. In comparison when I have to take my mom to her personal Doctor, not related to NVFM, he only comes in, never sits down and is out off the room before any questions can be asked. Dr Ellis will sit down and listen. And, she has a very infectious laugh, that always cheers me up! I have made it a point to meet the Staff. They are friendly and know my name. There has been some turnover in staff in recent years as there is everywhere. I can see the staff working hard to accommodate the patients. I would highly recommend Dr. Ellis and Staff to anyone.
Receptionist was pretty rude. Just asking simple questions such as if my insurance is covered at that office, and she told me to check with my insurance provider which I did via the app, and when I called to schedule an appointment she said it still may not be covered and I would have to call the number on the card, which isn’t a big deal but I kind of thought they would be able to tell me. She just had a rude tone and didn’t seem happy to help me at all.
Wow, so I did not know that "U/S" on my referral was for ultrasound and was unable to articulate what was needed to SIMONMED. I called Ashley Schonn's office for assistance and "U/S" was rudely explained me. The rudeness was compounded by being hung up on after I said, "Thank you for your assistance". This along with another issue has convinced me to never return to this office.
Tried to call to make an appointment for a physical. The receptionist couldn't confirm that they are in network with my insurance and directed me to call my insurance company. Not the biggest inconvenience, but something that prior medical offices have either known or were able to confirm for me. After confirming they were, I called back to make an appointment for a physical. I was told that the first visit would be a new patient visit and they may not get to the physical on that visit because they would instead use that time to take my medical history. I have never heard such a thing and I am a medical provider. I didn't ask if that meant I would pay for two visits. Regardless, I don't have time to schedule two visits for a simple physical. Or even take the chance that would happen.
Holy cow I just had the worst experience with their receptionist. I don't remember her name but she was so incredibly rude on the phone I have no desire to visit this office. I'm new to the area and looking for a new PCP. Called to make a first time appointment with one of their providers and she refused to even let me make an appointment without listing one of their doctors as my PCP on my insurance card. God knows how long that will take?? File it with my insurance then wait for a card to come in the mail. When I asked if this is a normal practice for doctors offices in the area she rudely said "well it is for ours!!". So I politely said "oh okay, well never mind" then she hung up on me. Didn't even need to step foot in this office to know these people are not worth my time or money.
