North Bay Nordic Ski Club

About

There are over 50 km of well-marked trails, groomed for both classic and freestyle skiing. Instruction for all levels, as well as competitive skiing, are available throughout the winter. Fantastic snowshoe trails are also available.

Story

Twenty-seven years have passed since the official incorporation of the North Bay Nordic Ski Club in 1975. The Club has been at its current location on Northshore Road since the winter of 1978. Much has changed over the years – the appearance of the trails, the snow grooming equipment we employ, the clothing we wear, the ski equipment we use, and the clubhouse facilities we enjoy.

The trails that once accommodated a single snowmobile and tracksetter are now up to 6 meter width to allow both classic and skating techniques and the passage of large sophisticated snow-grooming equipment. Our clubhouse, Jackrabbit Lodge, and equipment garage have all been improved steadily over the years.

But with all these changes, many things remain constant at the North Bay Nordic Ski Club. The rugged hills of the escarpment north of Trout Lake remain as challenging and daunting as ever; the downhill runs are just as fast. And the great strength of the Club, its spirit of volunteerism, continues to drive the Club in all of its pursuits.

The North Bay Nordic Ski Club has grown and owes its success to the innumerable hours spent by the hundreds of volunteers that have come together over the years. Without these people the club would be nothing like it is today – arguably one of the best member owned cross country ski areas in Canada.

The preceding section contains excerpts directly from “Kick and Glide – A history of the North Bay Nordic Ski Club; 1975 – 2002” by Dave Minden. This book, published in 2003, provides an excellent 256 page overview of the Club’s history. We encourage you to read through it if you get a chance.

Our favourite Nordic ski centre in Ontario! Beautiful scenery, and great trails! Staff and skiers are always friendly, and there are rentals onsite.

One of the best Nordic centres in Northern Ontario. Groomed for classic and skate, with 3km of lit trails at night. Rentals available, and totally reasonable day rates/season passes.

Nice place, kind staff, but levels of trails are difficult to understand as well as the distances are off that are marked

Awesome! Was only 16$ for one snowshoe rental and two day passes. Felt like it was too good of a price. Maybe it was cause it was so late in the day gave us a deal??. Anyway we both only fell once climbing up to the darn ice falls! Will be back to try skiing next!

Mountain Biking was great fun, super raw, low traffic trails indicative of great local community building effort.
