We have had lots of experience with Japanese Peruvian cuisine Nikkei cuisine both in Lima Peru and in Toronto and Miami. We did go in with high expectations. First off, decor and ambiance are great. The host was nice and welcoming and wished us a good night when we left. The table was ready on time. The cocktail menu and presentation are excellent. The cold dishes are far superior to the warm dishes. Food presentation was great! The issue: the flavours are repetitive. The same yellow sauce which we suspect is an Aji Amarillo based sauce appears on several dishes. It’s delicious, but repetitive. The garnish was somewhat repetitive too. The single dessert item is way too sweet and lacks any textural balance. Needs some crunch or something bitter to offset the sweet. The biggest issue for our party of 5, the attitude of the waiter. We all noticed it and it almost ruined a special occasion. Well, we didn’t let it ruin a special occasion, let’s put it at that. He was condescending, short tempered and appeared to have some issues with our group because we could see he wasn’t behaving this way with other tables. Perhaps a language barrier issue? Shouldn’t have been as we all spoke French and communicated in French. Perhaps an off night. Perhaps something else. We will not be returning, but definitely worth a visit if you’re from Montreal and you’ve never had Nikkei cuisine.
I happen to be a big fan of Peruvian food - a take on Asian food courtesy of Peru. Peru has got some of the best restaurants in Lima in the world. I’ve been there. And it’s true. Nikkei in Montreal is an awesome expatriate experience of Peru in Montreal. The best part of it beyond awesome food is staff. We sat at the kitchen counter and the chefs on the line are not just committed to good food, they put enough love and genuine care it’s like dining with a friend who just happens to be an amazing chef. My favourites were the cod and the scallops, but Sebastian who was working with Gary in front of us, said the menu changes by the season. So we are definitely going back.
Amazing food and service. Everything on the menu was good, and was made to be shared. The wine list is not impressive, but the food pairs better with sake. They have very good sake choices. The only weak point is the location of the door, which is in the middle of the dining area, so cold air enters every time someone comes in or out; make sure you dress accordingly in the cold season.
We had an amazing experience at Nikkei. The staff was super nice and welcoming and the cocktails and food were great. The tapas are a bit pricey but they are delicious. We'll go back for sure. Food: 4/5 Drinks: 5/5 Place/decoration: 5/5 Staff: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Value for money: 4/5
The food was pretty good. I exceptionally liked the teriyaki lotus and mushrooms dish. The ribs were good too. The tartare a little too much rice and the scallops dish were just missing a little zing, were a little on the sweet side. Only one dessert option which was alright! The cocktails were really good.
Absolutely fabulous restaurant. Highly Recommend! I kinda ordered everything on the menu, and I love everything they served. The food is way beyond delicious, and cocktails are very tasty. The vibe is great, and the service are amazing! I will definitely come back!
Came for dinner with friends and we had such a great time!! Loved the atmosphere, service was good and the food excellent! Pisco sour was on point and we loved all of our plates. Definitely not our last time here. Chefs kiss !
Marvellous restaurant! I was never a fan of fusion cuisine but honestly, Peruvian and Japanese fusion is a hell of an experience. The food was amazing and the choice of drinks were all interesting. Would definitely recommend for Japanese foodies!
This place was fun, food delicious and once they took our order things kept coming superfast. My margarita was great, strong but very well balanced. However since the cuisine is unusual and it’s positioned as tapas we wanted to try several dishes, and I have to say they lack versatility a bit. It seems the chef is using the same lime-red onion dressing on half the dishes and some of them end up tasting almost the same which is a shame. I would suggest to make the menu a bit more versatile in terms of dressing, but overall the restaurant is definitely worth trying out
Amazing cocktail list and good tapas. The staff is very attentive and kind. The calamari dish had too much sauce and it took over the main flavours in my opinion but overall a great experience!
