A busy crowded Asian night market experience, this is their first time at Downtown Markham, ample parking at the Aviva parking lot, but traffic chaos at Birchmount & Enterprise. Young crowd with high energy, great vibe and great atmosphere, food is overpriced but great for photo opps. Vendor quality is a hit and miss, some have long line-ups and some have no business. But the food menu selection is moving a bit more upscale with scallops & oysters compared to lamb skewers and stinky tofu of previous years. Entertainment is mostly geared for the young Asian crowd, production is very professional and state of the art.
Pretty large Asian food market with lots of selection. I believe this is the first year they moved from the Civic Centre over to Downtown Markham. I like this location better, as there's more parking options and other things to do in the area. People are complaining about parking arrangements, but they just need to know where to look.
Attended for the first time this year & it was fun, there are a good number of vendors to choose from, although not a huge amount of variety in food items. It’s pricy, but that’s to be expected of any special event markets. The food I had & saw was good, the on-stage entertainment was okay. It was pretty crowded, which again is to be expected of these events.
I went on the Sunday evening around 6 PM Summer 2022, didn’t have any issues with parking, weather was nice, no huge lines, all stalls were open to make this event happen. My family and I had a great time and anyone we came across were very friendly. Many good food and drink options.Reminds me of my time in Taiwan visiting night markets, I highly recommend Night it Up! Night Market.
Great weekend festival featuring night market themed treats, snacks and more. Line-ups were long but expected, and cash is king.
We went to Night It Up! on Saturday evening, knowing it would be the busiest but that's the only time we are available so we braved it. We planned for early afternoon but it poured. Parking was a serious issue, we tried the businesses around the block and it was full we've looked over at nearby malls and it was full of cars waiting. At the No Frills plaza, they hired securities to prevent people from parking there and walk over. When we finally got to the market, it was fully packed and crowded and we're not able to move or see where the line starts to line up to try vendor booths. Due to the lineup, we didn't try as much of the booths as we would like to. As it's smokey and hot we didn't stayed too long tried a few food and we called it a night. In terms of safety since it's hot and all the meat are lying around not sure how 'hygiene' it was. But it did stand up to the name as the market was for Asian Street Food. Hope it can be better organized as it's been going on for a few years already.
Always on My List of Food Festivals!! I have been going to Night It Up or as its known now as NUI for many years. Over the years it has grown from a small grassroots food festival to a major GTA Food event. This place is a haven for all of us Instagram, Yelp and Google posting foodies and should be on anyones' calendar if you are a true foodie. As I have I mentioned to all who attend, go to the website first where you will get info on vendors, stage acts and parking. Parking can be little vexing but its worth the 10 minute walk. This year the event was split into three main sections in the Markham Civic Centre parking lot. The first section was where the Sports events and the non-food vendors are placed. The middle section is where all the food and the main stage is. The last section, right in front of the Civic Center is where you will find some of the sponsors, and many places to sit and eat so you take a break from the crowd. There are many rows of vendors, and always new and exciting foods to try. I can't go into too much detail here as there must be at least 100 vendors there. My highlights this year were the Grilled Donuts from the Grilled Donut Boys, The Los Vietnmita Taqueria, where I had the amazing Fried Chciken Taco, Bao is Life, for...well...Bao!! I also had Lamb Skewers, a Payaya drink from Papayas, a mango smoothy from Fresh 69, and a few other things. I got there an hour before sundown, with friends from Crossfit Markham, and we went to town since we came hungry. It was the first time at NUI for my friends and they loved the food, but hated the massive crowds and lineups. if you are a veteran like me of many food festivals then it goes with the event so I'm usued to it. Overall a smashing success and I cant wait to see what 2020 holds for this festival.
NIU is more about the vibes than the food. Overpriced and mediocre foods - better to eat at home and then have a fruit juice drink while enjoying a post-pandemic summer stroll.
There's so many delicious snacks and drinks at Night It Up! Some of the things we tried were this tasty thai iced tea charcoal ice cream from T-Bear Waffle and pork belly baos from Bao Is Life! The steamed buns were so soft and the peanuts gave it the perfect crunch!
Night markets have been the same for years. Foods are tasteless, extra pricey and you have to wait in a long line. This one is no exception.
