This was my first time camping on an island with trees. I'm from Nunavut and we don't have any trees. The island is beautiful! I saw an eagle flying, I had to cover the little puppy so it doesn't take it for its next meal . Me, coming from Nunavut, I wasn't expecting to go camping to a place with cell phone service, running water, garbage bins, outhouses, let alone a place to take shower for loonies. This place has all of that! Lol The Concession is a nice little place to get some food, drinks, and merch. The beer is nice Not very many options, but I didn't even think they'd have beer available. It was a nice surprise. I had remembered to bring everything on the face of this Earth to this Island, but coffee. And the Concession had run out of coffee for a couple days, too, so I just had to drink my tea to get caffinated. Overall, the food was good, coffee was ... I wouldn't know, view was beautiful, ferry was small and cute, weather was hot, water was cold, the experience was great. I had so much fun! P.S. - I found a sand dollar! It was my first time seeing a sand dollar. Lol
What a gem! It’s beautiful! The cute little ferry ride that is dog friendly and the 10km perimeter trail is spectacular! A lake is also hidden on the island and camping is allowed, also trails throughout the island.
My 6 year old said it should be called FUN Castle. Foot traffic only keeps the crowds lower. Honestly, a family favourite. Love hunting for beach glass here too.
What a place for family picnic with many playful options, e.g. bikes, sup, kayak. Even the ice cream was so nice!
Amazing trip to this hidden gem! Our kids rode bikes and adults on foot. Stunning ocean and forest views. Easily toured in 1.5 hours with lots of stops for kids aged 6 to 11.
Great day trip out of Nanaimo for an easy nature getaway. Hiking, camping, cycling, picnicking, tidal pools & food concession to check out. Kayak & bike rentals also available. Views of Nanaimo, or harbour & beyond. Walk on ferry was short & regular for easy commute. Hauling gear from the ferry to a camp spot can be cumbersome if not prepared. Plan ahead & you'll thoroughly enjoy!
A lovely place, so tranquile at least once you get around to the seaward side of the island. Nice views from the coastal trails, we also saw a deer and a racoon unfortunately not the white one.
Great day trip. Over night camping available Burger joint n ice cream $10 boat taxi ride. Go for a few hours or stay the night. Family friendly and many areas to cook, eat and washrooms.
Very good secluded little island for parking great if you just want to camp besides the beach and water. Just wish their grass was green! Was not able to walk and explore the whole island but did find an area with less rocks to Wade in the water, they have a restaurant for food and great ice cream! It truly was a unique experience to camp on the island after hopping off the ferry to get here!
Great place to go rent bike or kayak and tour around the island. Or just take a nice walk through the trails. Perfect for a picnic with your sweetie!!!
