The New Icelandic Heritage Museum had great information about when and how the Icelandic people came to Gimli. This is a family-friendly place with a family rate to enter. It is accessible as it is all on one level.
Despite the the recently placed restrictions due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, I had a very nice experience coming here. Got to learn a lot about the history of New Iceland and the culture of the Icelandic people living in Manitoba. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.
Very organized and the staff are friendly in the museum. Watched a short documentary film about early Icelandic people immediated to new Iceland started Gimli and the Ukrainian joined and others. You can buy any of the museum gifts or memorial stuff with the same price or cheaper than the city shops. You will learn also about the Volcanos and the rocks. Deserved to visit.
A great little museum! Many interesting things to see. Interesting video about the history of Gimli; be sure to watch it. The customer service is great! Even a display mentioning my great hometown of Duluth, MN! You can appreciate this museum in about an hour and that’s with reading all the displays and taking time to dress up like a Viking. :-
This is a small, but excellent museum. You can start by watching a short film about Gimli and New Iceland. The museum has several displays about Iceland and the early days of the settlers in Gimli. It is well worth your time to stop for a visit, when you are in the area.
Small but nice, helpful and courteous staff.
