I had to go to the ER Tuesday evening and I was scared and stressed. I was greeted and triaged at the front desk by two lovely nurses a man and a young woman, who were so kind, calming and quickly sent me off to the next room and then the female nurse soon brought me my jacket that I’d forgotten at triage thank you.nAs I waited, I watched the nurses come in and out, calling for the next patient, each treating the patients waiting, with such respect, caring and kindness and so gentle with the elderly, not one dismissive or grumpy person.nWhen it was my turn to be seen I got the super wonderful Dr Marwood, he quickly assessed my issue, quelled all my fears, told me what to expect, what he will do and what I’m to do and not do afterwards. He answered every single question I had, never once rushing me. I couldn’t have gotten a better doctor. Next I got the two most wonderful nurses ever, Henrietta and Kremena, they were the absolute best. They made sure I was very comfortable during an obviously scary time for me. They quickly set up my IV antibiotics to perfection, they kept up clear, friendly communication, made sure that after a long wait, I felt perfectly taken care of and that I felt good and safe and not just another number. They were so absolutely perfect.nThank you so very much to all of you, I’m on the mend and I’m so grateful you were all there to take care of me and fix me up.nSincerely,n“Balloon head”
I had a surgery last week at the hospital and it required an overnight stay.nAll the staff were excellent.nAttentive and caring.nThey do their best with limited resources.nHowever, they put me in a room with a man who coughed and wheezed for 8 hours before they moved him to another floor.nAt 1:30am another patient was brought in.nThree days after getting home, I had the worst cold that I can ever remember.nI’m 75… not a good thing at my age trying to recover from surgery.n6 days after surgery, I tested positive for Covid. Great job Nanaimo hospital.nTwo things I know for sure are:n1 no one stays at a hospital to get sleep and 2 no one stays for the food. The portions were small but then again, if you’re hungry you don’t complain about the poor quality of the food when they serve you.
The facilities at NRGH perinatal unit exceeded my expectations. The nurses and doctors handling mine and my baby's care were kind and compassionate. I have not always had great experiences with our medical system, but I felt seen, heard, and taken care of by every single incredible nurse I saw during my stay. Thank you to your amazing team.
I was admitted for surgery after waiting in emerg for 14 hours running tests, wait times can be insane but the staff were doing their best while being attentive and finding the root cause of my problem and helping many others in the crowded waiting room. Every nurse and doctor I spoke to was so kind and comforting, helping me through intense pain and anxiety I was having. They kept me comfortable in a nice room until I went to surgery. Thank you so so so much to the nurses who cared for me, you are all amazing at your jobs and made me feel safe and comfortable.
6-8 hour wait for our son who has asthma and was struggling to breath.. this place is an absolute joke! As I’m writing this review in the hospital with our son I can hear the nurses and doctors chatting away swearing might I add. I know all about their lunch and weekend plans and how annoyed they are with other patience in here. I’ve watched 3 nurses stand and talk about home-sense for over an hour! Oh and now we have moved on to dungeons and dragons conversations with the doctors, Do not recommend bringing anyone here!!! Will be going to parksville or Ladysmith going forward.
