We were so happy with the food, the service, and the views today! I ordered hamburger and fries and my husband got the club and sweet potato fries and they were amazing! We were very impressed with how quickly everything came. The only issues were bees which unfortunately being on a patio are bound to happen. The waitresses acted quickly to try and draw them away and provided me a new drink when a bee went into mine. Would most definitely return
Servers were nice. Food however was just so-so. I orders the seafood platter. Half dozen shrimp, a few calamari rings and noticeably absent was the scallops. Not worth the $23.00 they charged.
We intentionally passed into this place for a "pit stop" from Toronto to Montreal. I found out about it from a blog online about the "best restaurants in Gananoque". Spoiler I don't think it's one of the 'best'. I'm not here to berate you or make you look bad with a negative review. I'm just stating facts. And this is not my "opinion" as you said to other reviewers. It's more like areas of improvement. I really wanted to like this place. The location is really nice on the water with nice views. The music and ambiance was nice. I went in April so obviously not peak season. And not busy. Only one other couple in there. So that goes to say that we didn't have the wait time or rude staff problems others had. Our waitress was really nice, did what she had to do, took our orders, asked if we were good etc. So of course we tipped unlike some other reviewers who didn't. I believe the problem with this place is not with the waitstaff. 1. The entire place needs some sort of upgrade/renovation. Booth seating was dated and worn. Dirty. Clean the place. Change the upholstery/furniture. Toilet was dirty and everything you have to touch no automatic taps door you have to pull to open. Kind of gross in COVID times. 2. Food: Meh, I expected a lot more from this place. The menu is diverse I guess. A lot of variety to choose from. But definitely not gourmet and barely meeting the pub food quality standard. I feel like if you upgraded your menu a little bit more it could go a long way. I get it, you are trying to save on costs. But frozen fries? I had the avocado chicken sandwich. The chicken seemed like a fake ground up chicken patty not even real chicken breast. So probably frozen. It tasted good, like not bad or horrible, just more like fast food good, not pub or restaurant good. My wife had the chicken supreme. OMG we were SHOCKED that all she got was a scrawny wing hahahahaha, we actually laughed. Chicken supreme is usually breast. Talk about cutting cost. I'm not a chef but I know what good food could be - and doing a little more in terms of quality with your food could go a long way. Since it was dead not busy, not sure what the turn over is on the food there and what you're doing to ensure we are not being served stale or spoiled food. We got a glass of milk for my toddler kid, the glass was stained and had some black fingerprint/muck on the outside. come on, that was a bit gross so at least wash your dishes properly. The local tap beer was good even though there not much choices. I was reading some of the negative reviews and the responses by the owner. I get it, some of the patrons may be complaining short stay tourists, and I get that it's COVID times, but some of them have valid points and the responses from the owner are sometimes too defensive and sometimes acusational. Just take the feedback and apologize. Saying "I'm sorry you feel that way" is not an apology - even if you don't agree with the customer. If you know you are understaffed ramp up staff in summer time.
I think it's important to realize from the get-go that this is a casual dining establishment and maybe one needs to lower their expectations when they enter such place. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. My dining companion enjoyed the fish and chips. I had a chicken sandwich which would have been okay if they hadn't used a prepackaged breaded chicken portion, but as I mentioned above- that choice was my own mistake.. I'm sure their burgers are a great option as would have been the club sandwich.
When I went to this restaurant with my family. The food was not worth the price, we got one chicken burger and fries the fries were ice cold burger was like from a high school cafeterias. The server was trying her best. We waited for a server 20 mins after sitting down. They kept passing us didn’t care in the world. I think this restaurant needs staff who cares about costumer services. Very bad experience
Absolutely disgusting. Noticed between the booth seat and wall a lot of spider webs with 2 spiders actually fighting on it. The washroom is gag worthy, the hand dryer Dyson air blade style had a crust of mould from where the water drops off your hands, and even had thick mouldy grout directly underneath it. A simple wipe when they clean would avoid this, but the amount of crust that was there makes me question whether it's EVER been cleaned. Ironically on the door as you leave the restroom there's a sign that states "we ensure our bathrooms are cleaned every 2 hours" or something to that extent. I ordered the beef dip, and it was obviously microwaved meat that was left in too long, and could have been mistaken as jerky. I felt sick to my stomach for the rest of the day, i felt dirty, it was THAT bad. Health inspector will be doing a spot check soon. Picture available as proof.
We have visited Muskie Jakes over the years and while the food is good and the service is great, the entire dining room/bar needs a complete overhaul including a complete cleaning. The old laminate floors were terribly dirty and cobwebs were very visible around electrical outlets & baseboards. They also need to be replaced. Please clean up.
Quite possibly the best burger I've had at a restaurant/pub. Just absolutely fantastic. Would've been a 5 star rating if not for the lackluster service. Waitress disappeared literally for huge chunks of time and my meal was eaten before i had a refill. Another 15 minutes to pay for the meal. Not a deal breaker for a return trip but a little frustrating.
I would give this restaurant 0 stars if I could. After a long day, we wanted to just order some take-out and relax in the hotel. At 8:00 pm, the restaurant was mostly empty, and I ordered a club sandwich with fries and an order of sweet potato fries. The waitress said it would take about 15 minutes or so, which was fine with me. I waited for my food for an hour! When I finally got it, I should have checked it, but it was in sealed containers, and I thought it would be fine. The club sandwich wasn't toasted, there was no bacon and no french fries. The price for this rather plain white bread sandwich was $16.95 before tax. As I was leaving, I overheard several tables complaining about how long they'd been waiting for food, and they were turning people away at the door, even though the restaurant was still only half full. Unacceptable. This place is part of the Gananoque Inn and it's right on the water. They will always have customers, so they obviously don't care if you ever return. Save yourself a headache and avoid this place if you can.
My wife and I went here for dinner. After waiting an hour for the food we were shocked to see what was served to us. My wife’s food was still frozen/ raw. my meal was cold. We paid for our drinks and left immediately. The server was nice but this place in our minds presents a health and safety concern. There never was a manager that addressed our concerns or anyone at a management level who seemed to care. Please avoid visiting this restaurant.
