The beach is beautiful and has several parking areas. There are also dune trails you can hike in the area, but need good hiking/walking shoes for those as there is underbrush in areas that could be dangerous with bare feet. If you head north along the scenic drive there are beautiful lookouts to pull off at and other smaller parks along the way. Overall a great area to explore and a great day trip!
Nice place to camp. It was chilly the weekend we went, but we stayed warm with plenty of firewood. It's got nice showers and bathrooms at the bath house. There are power outlets at each campsite to plug in your electric kettle, griddle, etc. Lovely sunset views in the evening.
Beautiful views in winter of lake Michigan. Lovely snowshoe paths and capability to blaze your own. Wonderful setting, great amenities. Ability to explore and enjoy nature for free, or pay for additional things to enjoy. Highly recommend, a staple in adventuring. If you are visiting Muskegon and are a nature lover, I recommend this area **instead of** Pere Marquette
We went to the zip line on New Year’s Eve afternoon. They have one long zip line. The people there were amazing!! They were fast, accurate, and made everyone feel safe! There was a handicapped 12 year old there in our group of 16. They made his special day even better!! The staff was so accommodating and friendly to all! Bystanders and participants alike. Not too many zip lines in the area. They have other winter and summer activities at the park as well. We have walked the trails there in the past. One of these days I will try the Luge run there! Looks fun!!! Definitely recommend Muskegon State Park based on the friendliness of the staff alone! Very professional!!
Nice place to come for some sunset watching. Lots of parking and beach to walk, more private feeling than other areas. Very natural setting also which makes for great dune climbing and pictures!
Many of the sites are not very level. The description of site sizes is deceiving as it takes in to account the brush and swampy area to the rear of the asphalt pad. A lot of trees have been cut down due to them dying from the high water a couple years ago. There is a nice walking path along the channel with places to fish. UPDATE: upon visiting again I would downgrade my rating to 2 stars. Our campsite looked like they dumped an entire truck load of sand in our site. Hard to walk on campsite, chairs sink into the sand and are not stable, shoes fill with sand and when going inside it gets tracked all over inside trailer and vehicle. On top of that we are surrounded by grass/weeds anywhere from 3-5 feet tall along with brush. Hard for the dig to wade through all this in the morning and he's a big boy!
Muskegon State Park is definitely worth a visit! It offers gorgeous beaches, hiking trails, a sports complex winter sports, zip lining and camp grounds. Ample firewood for campers on nearby residential roads. The channel camp grounds sit next to the channel where many interesting water craft go by. The walkway along the channel is lovely.
Love this place! So much to do and see! There’s a few places to eat…The Deck is amazing!! The lighthouses are fun to walk out to and look at! The views of the lake are amazing! My husband and I could’ve stayed here all day!
Absolutely love this place!! Have been coming since I was a kid and now I bring my kiddos to enjoy the peace and quiet, sunsets and beach here. Restrooms: Decent restroom. Handicap accessible. Ramp from restrooms out onto the beach. Picnic area: Great place to stop and picnic :
We really enjoyed our time camping here. We had an electrical problem on our panel and the staff was very helpful in getting us moved to a much nicer site. Many have water views. It's easy to ride bikes around and the beach has a large sandy area to accommodate all.
