"Come explore how Nova Scotians worked, what we made, and the tools we used. Wander through large exhibit galleries filled with mysterious artifacts. Hear the sounds of machines, watch them move during our demonstrations, and learn what they did. Remember old-fashioned pop bottles, pressed glass, and wringer washers? In 1827 the British Industrial Revolution came to Nova Scotia, with the technology, skilled coal miners and money to establish an industry right here on our grounds. This transformed Nova Scotia. Learn more about the rich history that made us a National Historic Site.It is not all serious though, the children will love the pump-ups, kid's train and the other adventures that await them throughout the exhibits."

We had a great time! Fabulous place to go for kids and adults, there was so much going on I could easily go back on my own just to take in the exhibits again. Look out for the "hookers"! They were my favorite part. Showing how creative textiles can be made from all kinds of scrap. The "Shop Bus" was my grandson's favorite, he returned to it several times. Plan to stay a few hours and don't forget to hit the gift shop on the way out!
Fun little car activities and arts and crafts going on for March break. Good place to take the kids to spend an hour or so. They had all the mining exhibits there still too. Wasn't too bad. Followed all COVID protocols, and friendly staff.
Took my family to this museum. I really enjoyed it. However my children had mixed reviews. Keep in mind the children are 3, 9, and 11. But there was a lot of interactive games for the kids to do and use. Only need about 1 hour to complete the walk thru. Staff was very friendly. Recommend for a quick visit.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

Simply amazing what you can see. Many many many items on display, some can be touched and for kids it will be wonderland. You learn so much and see so many things, simply wow! Highly recommended!!!
Awesome museum! It was really neat to see the different types of industry in Nova Scotia. I was especially interested in the coal mining portion and highlights of the Pictou mining disasters. Reading the school letters about the Westtray mine explosion was very saddening. It really makes you appreciate the human aspect of the disaster. On a lighter note there are lots of great interactive options for younger kids like hand worked pumps and mini cranes! Super cool spot!
Great museum. It does a really good job in leading you through the ages of industrialization, all the way to the current computerized times. Unfortunately due to Covid some of the hands on exhibits were unavailable but overall a good time for any age. Only shocking part was the Apple computer as I actually used that many moons ago. Guess I may be museum ready too. Finally the store has great options for gifts.
So much more than I expected. We went for the Mastodons and stayed for all the exhibits. I enjoyed it, and so did my 9 and 11 year old daughters. We learned a lot about the history of NS industry, with plenty of models and vintage equipment to keep everyone interested. It took us about 1.5 hours, but I could have spent 2-3 hours if I had been there alone.
So well done. Such an amazing place for little kids. Very interesting and interactiveVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Absolutely wonderful group of people that operate this facility. Carolyn was a staff member that touched base with me a few times as I walked around. She was very smart and very friendly to talk with. I added some photos with this review of the things I liked the best from the museum but there was plenty more to see there that I don't post!
