Filling out this review as of my second visit; first time I visited was in winter, and I was able to book a guided tour in advance. I really enjoyed the tour guide's perspective as a member of the community. On the second visit, early fall, we just got audio guides to peruse the museum at our own pace. It was interesting, and definitely added a few things that the tour guide had not shared, but it felt like less of a connection for me, for sure. The visit can be done relatively briefly, as it is just really one or two rooms of exhibit and the outdoor longhouse/palisade setup. The tour guide added a short walk through the village to share some history of the church and the mill as well. Doing it at a time where you don't have to bundle up to go outside was definitely more pleasant, but I would recommend booking a guided tour when possible for a more immersive experience, if that's what you're interested in. Also recommend checking out the Huron-Wendat traditional site as well, for another more immersive experience - they have a whole mini-village setup with lots of different traditional building styles, crafts, cooking set ups, etc.
Absolutely amazing experience! Our guide, Robert was multilingual, super storyteller, very knowledgeable and super patient. I absolutely recommend visiting it and stay there plenty of time.
The museum has a great layout that tells the story of the Huron-Wendat with some well chosen artifacts. You must get the audio system, the stories are fascinating. But the best part is the longhouse, such an amazing structure.
Great museum, much better with the full guided tour. Excellent way to learn the native perspective of the history we've been taught in school. I learned a lot :
Great museum to learn about the Canadian History - the inside is pretty small and can be visited with the audio guide in 30mins. Outside we succeeded to jump on a tour with a guide and this made the experience much better ! Try to join a group tour if you visit this museum. Our guide was a great story teller - telling us a lot of about his culture and family history.
Kwei! I just want to say thank you for a wonderful exhibit, organized with care, love and pride. We are so grateful for the chance to learn more about the history of the land and its people. The museum itself is located in a beautiful town and features a longhouse and palisade. Travellers, do stop by, procure the audio-guides, and budget at least two hours to spend in this museum. It is well worth your while.
Loved it. Instructive, a bit sad... If we had followed the native's ways, we wouldn't be in this climatic catastrophe. Nice trails to walk around. Amazing to see an actual long house and visit.
Staff was kind, but information was dated and colonised. So much potential, it be cool if they updated the information and included Indigenious knowledge keepers.
Superbe hotel. Friendly staff. Beautiful lobby and nice exhibition
It was very informative visit. Learnt a lot about First Nations specially through guided tour then what I would have known just by visiting it alone. The guided tour is a must
