Such a great hike! We took our kids 8,10 and 12. 12 and 10 were fine but the 8 was a bit rough. The chain area was a bit of a nail biter but we got through. It’s a challenge for sure with kids. Take snacks. Have fun and hopefully it’s a bit overcast. The bottom of the mountain gets warm real quick but the top can be chilly.
The Yamnuska trail offers an adventurous hiking experience. While the chain section may be nerve-wracking for some, it adds an exciting element to the hike. The scree part is enjoyable, allowing hikers to have a fun and thrilling descent. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding trail for adventure seekers.Recommended activitiesHikingParking spacePlenty of parkingParking optionsFree parking lot
Such a great trail. Pretty simple hike, although it is a heavy incline. Bring lots of water, proper shoes, and enjoy the beautiful views Parking: The parking lot is quite large but it fills up very quickly, you need a park pass to park there and you will be ticketed if you park outside of the designated parking zones.
Fun hike around Mt Yamnuska. The trail starts up gentle slopes of the east bench. The views open up as you reach the top of the east bench. The trail wraps around the back of the summit block and turns rocky and loose. There's a defined trail the whole route. Near the summit there's an interesting section with a safety chain for assistance. The trail winds back around to the front of the mountain and follows a huge scree run down. Once back in the treeline you connect back with the trail back to the parking lot to complete the loop. Our mistake was seeing all the cars in the parking lot when we started at 2:30pm. We assumed there would be plenty of hikers and lower risk of running into bears. Well, we were the last ones back down 4-hour trip and ran into a cub on the trail in the treeline near the car! No matter what we did, the bear cub wouldn't leave and we were scared mama was going to appear!
Went to Ravens End. Took almost 2.5 hrs as we stopped to rest alot. Trail is steepest closer to the top but the views are worth it. Restrooms: There are 4 loos but locks didnt work on a couple of doors.
Beautiful sights, but this trail is definitely for people who are skeptical about heights or trail quality. Not recommended for children or pets. You won't regret doing this hike. I do recommend bringing gators for the decline if you decide to go down the loose rock portion.
One of my favourite mountain trails; can be quite busy but is definitely a good time! Definitely do your research before you go; many people who go here because it’s popular end up out of their element or end up with improper footwear/gear in difficult places.
Great hike, it is a tricky one, make sure you bring poles and hiking boots/shoes.
Once in a lifetime must go.
