Welcome to the Facebook page for the Mount Vernon Police Department. The Department appreciates your interest in becoming a Mount Vernon Police Officer and encourages you to visit this page often.

The Mount Vernon Police Department consists of 45 commissioned Police Officers, two Community Service Officers, one Animal Control Officer, ten records/clerical personnel, one outreach coordinator and approximately 50 volunteers. We provide service to a population of almost 34,000 over an area of 11.3 square miles.

We are a state accredited agency, originally accredited in 1994, and then in 1999, 2004, and 2011.

With a community based policing philosophy and practice, our number one operational priority is the prevention of crime. We are committed to helping create safe and enjoyable neighborhoods for the citizens of Mount Vernon.

5 stars. yes there are one or two who should not be a cop. There are one or two of us people who should not be on the streets anytime of day. BUT, I have lived in Mount Vernon WA since 2008. Skagit Highlands area. The police department here was thrown a few thousand people into this city starting in 2006 to recent. It is a small department, more humane and respectable than most, imho. They do take the time to talk to people , they do take the time to get what is wrong ,straight,they do, and from where I am sitting, take a lot of guff without losing their cool. Try having a cop in Seattle be this good and caring.Believe me , it is hard beat up there . I could compare them to other areas, but they would all rate the same. Their scores would be in the mid 3's. Mount Vernon, WA rates a solid 5 for being able to handle troubled youth and domestic issues. Believe me , I have lived in a few areas and this 'cop shop' is above average . Excellent ,actually.

Mount vernon police have for several years protected a career criminal who owns a business locally that specializes in deceptive practices .... They have allowed him to steal a vehicle that is not his and that he has no interest in (this said vehicle has been assigned to a loan company and payments are ahead not behind) because hes "well connected" in his community.... If this were anyone else they would have been arrested for grand theft auto and awaiting a court date... If this is the case is it fair to say that since a drug dealer is well connected with in his community he should be given the same leeway??? I guess what they say is true those who hold the money hold the power! Poor ethics and definitely a breach of the code of conduct... Clearly the publics interest is no interest of yours!
