Mt Prevost from Drinkwater Road. The trails are decently marked but there are a lot of branches so you need to keep your eyes open. We were taking the pink path up and got sidetracked onto the blue path. It was fine because we discovered a little waterfall we'd never seen before! We realized our mistake and found our way back onto pink. The view from the top are great on a clear day. It was overcast and misty when we went up. But that can be just as good as the distant mountains look more dramatic! Keep your eyes open for the little gnome homes near the beginning of the trail.
Sept23/2018. WOW. The view at the top of Mt Provost is eye candy of the Cowichen Valley below offers many sights that it’s hard to concentrate at one particular spot,in a second later your eye will be distracted by another to look at that spot over there will be better.Call the view how you want because the view is more than 180°.A camera is a must, you will want to show your friends. If your not familiar with the area after you turn off highway 18 stay on Mt Provost Road stay to the left and take Satellite Rd watch for the signs Provost Memorial and shortened as P/M,take Crossover Road stay to your left, watch for Provost Mainline/Provost Memorial PM.I used a GPS map reader for accuracy. On the way up there is many logging roads, some new and some old. Thanks to the persons that placed numerous signs and good directions with arrows of which way to go. At the parking which isn’t a signed designated spot.No signs requires you to wonder around we found what I assumed was the correct direction to the memorial was not but we ended up on the lower bluff. I must admit my wife and I did not get to the actual memorial,My wife isn’t as physical fit and I when figured out that the Memorial is on the other higher bluff it was to late. That’s for another trip.
Absolutely amazing views of the Cowichan Valley. I frequent this mountain for two reasons, hiking to the summit via the Bings Creek Trail is the first. The second is driving up the logging roads to the summit to shuttle our mountain bikes for the best downhill trails on Vancouver Island.
Beautiful climb up, I found this to be a nice steady climb, not to hard not to easy
Fun drive the up the mountain, great place to sit to listen and and watch the birds and enjoy the best view on the island and a clear day Mt Baker
beautiful place, breathtaking view, can jump with a parachute...love it
Beautiful forest near the top. Lots of mountain biking. But alot of clearcuts all over it.
Great place to hike. Nice downhill biking especially because there is a forestry road to the top of the run. Stellar views of the valley and beyond depending on visibility of the day. Like most mountain areas around Vancouver Island, could use much better signage to help navigate if you aren't familiar with the trails/roads.
Took the route off Drinkwater Road, parked Infront of the private property signs, trail access is at the sign that marks private road. Not an overly difficult hike, lost of trails off the main trail so watch your map closely or you may wander off route. The terrain is steep in a few areas even light snow or heavy rain does make it more difficult.
Great place to hike at day time, about a 12km loop, or you can drive up whenever you want and have a great view of duncan at night, on a clear you can easily see the imposing mt baker and pretty much any mountain at 360° all depending on which peak you go up, its about a 10 minute hike between the peaks, also people do paragliding.
