Network of tunnels, malls and office buildings that are connected together and to the Metro. Look for the RESO signs and maps along the way.nnIdeal when the weather outside is not cooperating!nnMany little things along the way make it interesting. Watch for the underground art festival in March and April.nnPersonal favorites;nWorld Trade Center look for a piece of the Berlin wallnCours Mont-Royal go to the upper floornPlace des Arts-Complexe Desjardins axisnnBest food courts are Time Out Market and the Cathcart
Good on a cold wet day to get indoors. However difficult to find your way along a maze of corridors. We eventually found the store we wanted but had trouble finding our way back, as we ended up exiting by a different entrance / exit door. But once outside we could use GPS to find where we wanted to go. I think possibly we could have walked underground but directions/ maps are scarce and it was easier just to come out.
A maze of tunnels, and escalators connecting the metro and train stations. Access to shops and food services. Signage is not great. Maps are sporadically placed. We got lost many, many times trying to navigate the maze. I recommend taking a photo of one of the maps so you can reference it often.
Convenient for connecting between various places in the downtown core without needing to go above ground. Has good shopping and dining options, but they close rather early.
The entire concept of a city completely sheltered from the outside is so cool to me! I visited in May, but I can definitely see this as a perfect asset for harsh Montreal winters. It’s not actually closed at night—you can still walk around and see the Berlin wall fragment, fountain, etc. but the shops will be closed. In fact, there’s no one else around at night so you can get really great photos!
