If you are into French inspired baking you MUST check out Bakery Monte! By far the best croissants in the city. Everything is super fresh. Baked very morning. Top notch quality with super friendly service. Pop in when you are in the westend of the city. Its really worth checking it it out. One note to add: Check their hours of operation. :
What a treasure to have this shop in our neighbourhood! My kids love the caramel steamer, as well as the madeline cookies. I've been working my way through all the various pastries and there are a lot! and haven't had a bad thing yet. Everything is fresh and flavourful, and there are so many unique options, like the churro croissant or lemon meringue cruffin. I love grabbing a loaf of their brioche on the weekend for french toast, and their dinner rolls are fantastic with soup, chili, and stews! Or even just on their own, let's be honest! I asked the owner to make some custom cinnamon buns for a special event I was attending, and he was very accommodating and they turned out amazing! Everyone ate them up and commented on how delicious they were. I feel like this location might be a challenge to bring in business, but I'm hoping the community supports Monte Bakery so that they can stay, as their service and products are amazing!
This little bakery appears to be focused on producing high-end French pastries - particularly croissants and croissant-dough pastries, which are difficult and expensive to make as they require large amounts of high-fat butter and take days to produce if you want to make them more like how it's made in France. I've tried their croissants, scones, canele, and savoury cream cheese filled croissant. They were all excellent, rich and extremely well made with quality ingredients and tastes fairly close to authentic. I would only suggest that maybe the scones do not need the coarse sugar sprinkled on top. Nevertheless the scones were delicious. Overall, I would rate their signature item the croissant AND their bakery as one of the very best in Toronto for what they focus on. A note on their pricing - it's very reasonable for what you are getting. Please don't compare with Tim Hortons $1.49 for their smaller "croissant"... Anyway, this bakery is highly recommended!
An INCREDIBLE range of delicious baked goods made to the highest level. I got a range of pastries and enjoyed every one of them. I’m just gonna go ahead and say these are the best croissants in Toronto. I live in Belgium and these are just as good as the ones I get in Brussels.
Small but excellent selection of french pastries. We tried the plain butter croissant incredible, the "churro" cinnamon sugar pastry very good and the kouign aman a little too much sugar for my liking; it stuck to my teeth instead of just crackling, but pastry was good. Definitely comparable to places downtown that have way longer lines. Next time I'll try their brioche loaf!
This is a great coffee spot, tucked away in a residential neighborhood. The owner is really friendly and his flat white latte is excellent, so is the cappuccino. There are only two seats on the inside and a small bench for seating outside.
1st visit: Easily one of the best coffee shops. Their pastries are extremely good and fresh! Gotta love the variety and service : Edit: multiple visits since For the last couple of visits, their food quality has deteriorated. The pastries are cold and do not seem fresh. The servers too are not quite accommodating. They refused to switch a pastry when requested even though it was still behind the counter with them. So much for being a regular customer.
This place makes very delicious, very beautiful croissants and a mix of other rotating French pastries. The quality is extremely high and the price very fair for what you get. Small shop with very friendly staff. Definitely some of the best croissants available in the city! I think the croissants could have their sauce cut back a little bit eg. Almond filling in the almond/ the cheese or bechamel sauce thats in the croc monsieur. I appreciate how generous it is but it’s sometimes a bit much for me. Definitely excited to keep coming back here!
The best croissants you're likely to have in this city. Assuming little place with great coffee from De Mello and an incredible variety of baked goods executed to perfection. Great staff and great selection.
Cozy place with great coffee and delicious croissant. Thank you, Sungjin
