I really enjoyed my visit to this Hawaiian barbeque eatery. The staff were very kind and patient even though we had visited a little bit closer to closing time. The inside is very clean and nice and really aesthetically pleasing. Our families favourite was the garlic shrimp and the spam musubi. I think the rice could be a little bit more flavoured personally or fluffy but all in all, it was a really delicious dinner. They do a lot of take out which is nice to see as well for the neighborhood.
Made the trip out to Langley to try out Moku Famous Hawaiian Barbecue last month always looking for some Hawaiian eats in the Lower Mainland. The shop is in a newish development and has a light pastel interior with soft relaxing music playing nice airy vibe. You order at the front counter. Prices are a bit expensive but I guess that's getting to be the new normal. We tried the combo plate with barbecue chicken and kalua pork. Would have loved if they had laulau. The bbq chicken was good would have liked a bit more char to the skin and the slow roasted shredded pork was a generous serving. Underneath the pork was some veggies which sopped up all of the pork juices so make sure you mix it up a bit before you eat to get all that flavour otherwise the top bits might seem kinda dry. The garlic shrimp was cooked in brown butter seemed a bit overcooked for my preferences as I like the shrimp with more of a plump, snappy bite. The rice and mac salad for both plates were more on the "wet" side of things. Really liked the spam musubi. Some places use too much rice but this had a good ratio of spam to rice and it was warm and well moulded. With the mango lemonade and iced tea, the meal came out to about $50. More than enough food for us as we couldn't finish it all.
First time trying Hawaiian food, and Moku doesn't disappoint. Spam musubi definitely left a great impression, kalua pork is tender and well seasoned. Spicy mochiko chicken is a little saltier for my tastet, but I enjoyed the taste. The beef is chewy and relies on the sauce for taste. It's probably the least favorite among the three. Overall, I would recommend it if you're craving meat! Rice portions are not much, but you can always order some. Will definitely come back to try other flavours.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place! Food was delicious, at first I thought the spam didn’t look like it was fried enough but it tasted delicious! They recommended the chicken so I tried both fried and barbecue versions, boneless for easy eating and wow, my taste buds are thanking me! The ribs and pork also set high standards. I did find the rice and macaroni salad a bit mushy but it might have been a preference thing? Would come back!
This hits closest to when we were in Hawaii! The decor and colour scheme definitely gave off island vibes. The food was flavourful and a decent portion. The process is simple, you order, pay and then grab your food. We ordered spam musubi, kalbi beef, and beef BBQ that with macaroni salad and scallop rice. The sauce had a nice tangy taste to it. We also got to try a piece of the garlic shrimp from our friend who ordered it, delicious! It's a cozy spot, not ideal for large groups however there are spots outside if there is no seating. Lots of parking surrounding the restaurant. I would definitely recommend coming here to give it a try!
I recently visited Hawaii and was very excited to hear about this place opening. I got the beef bbq plate to share with my partner. We believe it tastes like beef teriyaki that you could normally purchase at any Japanese restaurant. Especially since it comes on top of a bed of stir fried vegetables the way beef teriyaki is typically served. The mac salad doesn't taste Hawaiian, but it's still alright to eat. The food tastes more Asian than Hawaiian, but that's okay. Overall, still alright. The inside seating is cute as well.
Came in on a weekday early evening. There was no one else in the restaurant. There is not much signage outside the restaurant. It actually looks like it could be a yoga studio. It may be since the resto is quite new. The place was clean and bright. We were greeted as we entered. The complex is quite busy and there's new stores and restos all around. We ordered two combos, lumpia and spam masubi. This set us back $80. The garlic shrimp was good and so was the kalbi ribs. The spring rolls were nice and crunchy. The macaroni salad did not taste like anything. Though mixed with the rest of the food it was alright. We'd definitely come back. If you're missing Hawaii, this is the place to visit.
This is a gem. There aren’t many places to get Hawaiian Barbecue and we are so fortunate to have Moku open up right here in Willoughby. I usually get the combo platter and might even throw in an extra side of mac salad because it’s so good.Food: 5/5
I tried the Loco Moco and it was okay. The gravy tasted like it was made from powder style gravy that you can buy from any supermarket and not made from scratch. Overall was a good attempt but not quite the Hawaiian food I was looking for.Food: 3/5
Food is good but everything is served in takeout containers and disposable utensils even when dining in. Which is odd to ask for a 15% tip. Feels more like self-served cafeteria setting.
