Overall we really enjoyed our meal here but we did have some misses. The place looks great and we liked that they use real chop sticks and not the bamboo ones. Service was great considering the place just opened and unlike other new restaurants we've been to the food actually came out quickly. We started with the shredded kelp salad which we found a bit too salty. Also had the celery and tofu skin salad which was delicious. We also had the garlic stuffed mushrooms which we didn't like and wouldn't order again. For the main we had the braised beef noodle with flat noddles at "hot' level. The soup was delicious and one of the best we've had in Edmonton. The spice level was perfect and actually super spicy with lots of chili oil. We typically have to almost beg for extra chili oil normally but this place did it right if you like it spicy. The other main we had was the thin flat noddles with minced beef paste. This dish we did not enjoy at all. The main thing for me was that it was super cold. I've never had one of these noddle dishes served cold before so I'm actually not sure if it's supposed to be served cold or not. Aside from that the size was great and the quality of the ingredients was good. Will be back but wouldn't order this noddle again.
Came in for lunch to try out this relatively new restaurant serving Lanzhou hand- pulled noodles. Our table ordered the braised beef noodle soup, signature stir-fried noodles, and lamb skewers. While I am not an expert, I have enjoyed my share of Lanzhou noodles. Comparatively, these noodles were denser than I have had in the past. My preference would be for the noodles to be not as dense but it was not a deal breaker - everyone has their personal preferences. The broth for the noodle soup was the bigger issue for me as it lacks the rich flavor that I look for in this dish. It was more hot water than broth in my opinion - with the chili adding some heat to it. Service was OK - only due to one server that smiled and seemed happy to be there - but to be clear this review give no weight to the service and I really only care about the food primarily the beef noodle soup. It is new and they have only recently expanded this location to Edmonton - so the hope is that they get better over time to match what I imagine the other locations in Toronto are like.
Overall this place is pretty decent. It’s definitely busy, but we were seated relatively quickly once we got to the front of the line. Even though the place was bustling, service was quick and our food was out in no time at all. Definitely the type of place to eat and go, though. Our noodle soups were delicious, the balance of noodles and meat was perfect. We got medium spice level this time around, but it really wasn’t spicy at all. I’d recommend getting extra spicy if you like any spice in your food. Noodles were dense, as other reviewers have noted, but I personally enjoyed them. Starters, on the other hand, weren’t great. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and the dumplings. The mushrooms were pretty much flavourless, and I’d avoid them. The dumplings were pretty much the kind you can buy frozen at the supermarket, and were nothing special either. Not sure if their other starters are good, but at this point I’d recommend foregoing sides and appetizers and just stick to their entrees. I’d probably eat here again once the hype dies down a bit, but I wouldn’t rate it among the top noodle options in the city.
This place is awesome! My wife and I finally got a chance to eat at this restaurant, and it didn't disappoint. I ordered the braised beef bowl with traditional noodles and an additional egg. If you haven't eaten anything for the last 24 hours, order the large bowl. This bowl was freaking massive, I felt like it was a bottomless pit of noodles and broth. We started with the beef skewers, which was okay, to be honest. It was definitely tasty, but it was greasy, and I thought it was too fatty. The noodle bowl is why you go here, and it won't disappoint. Our bowls were so flavourful, not overly spicy, and the braised beef was cooked just right. We went during the Saturday lunch rush and only waited 15 mins before we were seated. I'd definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.
Mogouyan was decent. Great service, great atmosphere and clean environment! The staff were attentive and polite! The braised beef soup was good. The noodles were soft, and tasted amazing and the beef was flavourful! But the broth was slightly disappointing I wish it was more flavourful. But overall decent experienceRecommended dishesBraised Beef Noodle Soup
Tried this for the first time. The food was really good and very filling! They give you A LOT of noodles, all freshly made! You get to pick the type of noodle you’d like for your dish thick, angel hair, etc. I got the braised beef with angel hair and it was delicious. The beef just breaks apart in your mouth, it’s so soft and yummy! The broth was also very tasty. They have different flavoured green teas that come in huge glasses as pictured. The staff here are very attentive and quick, as well! I recommend if you like noodles!
We got the braised beef noodle soup and the dry noodles with braised beef. The noodles were excellent - chewy and thick. The beef in the soup was good, but there was not very much of it. I would have liked a bit more. The proportion of beef and veg in the dry noodles was good and very well seasoned, it was probably the better of three two dishes.
Fresh noodles and broth. You can see the chef making noodles from flour right in the center piece of the restaurant. Great size. I would recommend to order regular size bowl and classic size noodles as the thick noodles are truly very thick and can be hard to eat. Large size is huge, so don't order unless you know you can eat a lot. I think the broth is great, but a bit salty to my preference. I would prefer if there's more herb/ veggies/ some condiments for the side dishes/ or to adjust your soup taste. Come during the weekday to avoid the long line up. Last time we tried on a weekend and we gave up as the line was too long. And I don't think it's worth 30mins to wait for a bowl of noodles. It's ok if I don't need to wait. Staffs are nice and chefs look like they are good at what they are doing :
I went to this establishment a few weeks ago with some friends. I did like how clean the place was but it did have some issues that were very easy to see on a Friday night. Atmosphere - the interior of the place looked very clean and tidy. Had a lovely look to itthough this was probably due to the place being open for only a month. No music whatsoever, just the sounds of people in a mall like always. This place has no original feel to it, just a noisy place with food like every other restaurant in Bourbon street. Service - not much to say here. The servers were pretty good but I could tell they weren't ready for this amount of people. Had to remind them about beverages a few times but they still tried to remain pleasant and courteous during their ordeal. Drinks - they ran out of alcoholic drinks before we grabbed a spot and they only had 2 flavours of their signature iced teas available. It was only 620pm at that point so I'm surprised they ran out . The iced tea itself had a refreshing taste but a not-so great flavour. Food - the appetizers were meager at best but fine in relation to their price. The deep fried chicken did not taste very good but the 3 tiny pre-frozen spring rolls made me laugh out loud at least. The main course was this very thick sauce covering the flat noodles I ordered. There were sparce bits of chicken in the dishthat had chicken in the name but not enough that you could actually point them out. One thing I will say is that it was very filling, this was due to the abundance of noodles more-so than the "toppings". My friend had a beef noodle dish and pointed out that she had a good amount of meat but most, if not all of it was made up of bone or collagen. This seems to be a running theme where some Asian food restaurants cut regular beef like they would cut up black wagyu steak, meaning that they use every single part and think the fat is wholly edible. Pricing wasn't too bad, probably the best part about this restaurant. Nothing to travel across town for though. Overall - I think I'm giving this place too much credit but because they are newly open, I'm making the strong assumption that they are just not used to the weekend rushes yet. Maybe they'll be better when they adapt to the area. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you happen to be in the mall at the time and that's ONLY because the restaurants across and beside it are considerably worst. Definitely not worth traveling for but if you want to just fill you stomach and listen to the sweet sounds of people talking then try it.
I loved the noodles. They have a great texture and are super fun to eat. However, I found my stir fry bowl a bit on the salty side. We also thought the proteins lacked appropriate portions in our meals. the dumplings and shrimp starters were very good. I would consider this more of a lunch restaurant than dinner.Food: 3/5
