Mile zero of Alaska highway started at Dawson creek. That is where the excitement started for the next 1200 miles.
Driving the AlCan Highway was an incredible experience. I did it twice in May and September 2012. Driving up in May was the best because there was almost no traffic and so the wildlife was active near the road. I saw 20 black bears and 2 brown on the drive up to Alaska, along with many other assorted animals. The scenery was unbelievable. Just when you thought it couldn't get better, you turn a corner and it does! This sign marks the beginning of the road from Dawson Creek.
A true landmark. Make sure to stop and getting your photos here before heading up the Alaska Highway.
Pretty sweet little stop! They also have a certificate you can get on the inside if the visitor center with your names hand written and a certified stamped! It's along the way to or from Alaska so you should go! No detours.
Cool spot for pic and to rest before continuing journey
