A great selection of video games from multiple generations of hardware are available for purchase here in this cute store. PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Xbox 360, Switch, Wii, PSP, PS3, Xbox One, PS4 and many more. Additionally, there are several rare titles to be browsed behind a display case. The prices of the sealed and rare items are not outrageous considering how overvalued the retro market is now. It's still nowhere near affordable but I'm not blaming the business because online prices are much worse. Retail is rare for video games so I was happy to make the trip out to South Keys to shop instead of going online. The staff were humble and allowed my companion and I to browse freely without interruption. If you're looking for something specific, give them a call and the staff will let you know if they stock the product. I would highly recommend this buisness.
Very knowledgeable and fair with trades and purchases. Love their wide selection and they were able to order in a Christmas gift for my Sister just in time for Christmas!
How does this shop differ from EB Games or GameStop? They sell games and collectables from almost every gaming generation, but they also sell new games for all the modern consoles. It was like travelling back in time in this store. I loved that they were selling original copies of old Nintendo Power magazines. I did not leave a fifth star because I found the staff not to be very friendly or approachable. They weren't unfriendly, but more so just passive. I didn't have a welcoming vibe. All in all, a fun store and a fresh change with some time jumps back into the 90's.
Microplay is sadly an overpriced game store that takes advantage of people. Firstly, the prices they charge are insanely marked 2x-3x and the selection is not great. Secondly, they have an absurd refund policy that is quite scummy. If you purchase a used game from the store, and decide to return it 5 days later, expect to be charged minimum $1 per day of owning that game. This is a terrible rule as most people return items, they never open or use. Thus, you're punished for simply purchasing an item and not playing it. -Story & Reasoning for #2- I had picked up a Pokemon 3DS game for $30 CAD + HST but decided to return the copy since I had no use for it. They still charged me $6 to get my money back on the game even though I never played it. To conclude, you're better off buying locally off Facebook & Kijiji as the prices are lower and the people are nicer!
Unfortunately they had a limited selection of dreamcast games, but otherwise there's definitely something for every gamer here. Competitively priced used consoles and games, 2 for 1 deals, posters, figurines, heck, even branded candy. A noteworthy downside was that I had to approach the counter to get help, as the employee didn't acknowledge us otherwise and remained behind the counter. Also, games aren't sorted beyond system so you'll definitely be browsing for a little while if you're looking for something in particular. That said, still worth a look-see before hitting the bigger gaming stores in the area.
It's become a rip off place since I used to visit it. I went to trade in items, and was told that the trade in value of my item was lowered cause it was dirty dust on the screen. I then noticed he continued to alter the price multiple times so he didn't have to pay me what it was actually worth. Probably my last visit.
This store is awesome. They have games from every generation. New stuff and used - with a great selection. The staff are amazing and so knowledgeable. Don't buy your gaming stuff from the big box stores - shop here!! If they don't have it which I yet to encounter they'll get it for you.
I usually go to EB games or Best buy to buy games for my PS4, but recently I got a new ps3 and I noticed that Microplay is a retro style gaming store they have a good selection and staff here that are willing to help. I came to purchase a GTA IV complete edition there was some confusion on which copy can run the original game but the employee was professional and I in the end left with a brand new copy. I will come here for used and new games for PS3 and PS4 in the future.
This place has an amazing owner and amazing staff! They are very community and customer focused, if there is a game that your looking to buy that's not in stock give them a call and they'll order one in for you! Very happy purchasing from this store and look forward to making them my main video games shop. :
Microplay Video Games Ottawa offers a great selection of games, including exports, rarities and used games that cannot be found in similar stores. Staff is helpful and polite. Prices are reasonable and at times cheaper than in similar stores.
