Made the drive to New Market to visit this cafe and so happy we did. It was everything I wished it would be. Wonderful cooperative space for people to get together to work, catch up, or even just enjoy ones own company while watching others go about their day. The joint venture of the cafe and mercantile gives guests the chance to enjoy a bite and drink while checking out a variety of beautifully sourced goods. Enjoyed our egg sandwich and olives as well as our drink. Don’t know if the ice is standardized on the iced drinks but I think I personally would’ve preferred more ice in it. We ordered the iced vanilla latte and and coffee flavour was a little diluted with the amount of ice and milk. Still enjoyed it though! Would visit this place often if we were from the area. Definitely worth the drive if not from the area!!
A not so hidden gem tucked away behind the main street. Similar to platform 9 3/4, this magical spot brings people together to study, eat, talk, and relax. It's perfect for anyone that needs the busy white noise of a cafe without the distraction. We were able to find a table with outlets so that we could power up our workstations and it was just big enough for all of us to share a meal at the same time. I tried the iced vanilla latte based on a previous review along with a pesto sandwich, Cubano, and butternut squash soup. The food here is restaurant quality and the drinks aren't overly sweetened the way the green mermaid does it. Merchandise in the back seems well curated and has a bit of a hipster vibe. Staff are polite and check in on you at appropriate times and clean the tables often to give you the space you need.
Perfect place to study with just the perfect amount of background noise. Fit the 3 of us comfortably and outlets close by for use. The retail in the back was super cute to look at on study breaks. 9/10 - London Fog on the sweeter side 8/10 - Iced Vanilla Latte 5.5/10 - Pumpkin Spice Latte 10/10 - Butternut squash soup, Cubano sandwich, Pesto sandwich. The toasted bread definitely made the sandwiches, crunchy and soft at the same time Parking: Lots of free parking around max 3 hours/location
Delicious vanilla iced latte, simple batch brew… great assortment of seating with ample room to move around. Super friendly staff - wifi, outlets, gift shop with a nice mix of local and/relevant products. Picked myself up some books and cute card with embedded seeds for planting Not too loud, or too quiet. Very cute spot!! Coming back for sure…
Such a gem. Perfect workplace with decent amount of background noise which wouldn’t distract you. Lots of sitting space. Coffees, sweets and sandwiches are amazing. So tasteful and fresh. When I come here to work I feel like comfortable and relax. I don’t feel the pressure to leave or to crowded that I can’t focus. You also have this little store inside full of beautiful handmade stuff.
this is such a lovely spot in main street Newmarket. Although it inhabits a pretty large space, it’s sort of a hidden gem! The combination of the comfortable cafe ambiance mixed with the small shop makes the space super cozy and inviting. I ordered an almond milk latte and an oatmeal raisin cookie. Both were great. Do note that this location is busy so you may not get a spot as many people tend to study/work here. pros: - lovely ambiance - extensive menu baked goods along with eats - accompanying shop for local goods cons: - not much available seating overall rating: 5/5
When people say, “there’s no place like home”, this is a place I digress from that opinion. Considering it a Newmarket must-visit, this cafe makes you feel right at home. To many folks, from what I’ve seen the second I walk in is a lively and busy room. Families to individuals working/studying, you already know this is the go to spot for locals. For first timers, you can pretty much never go wrong with the menu. Ordering for food, we had the cabano sandwich, the pesto sandwich, and the butternut squash soup. For drinks, I had the pumpkin spice latte as I was craving an end of the season drink. The food overall was bites of joy. Every sandwich was well prepared and cared for. Full of favours and you just keep on craving more. I never had a butternut squash that I wanted to savour every last spoonful, and this was no small bowl. The pumpkin spice latte that was made during this visit was okay, it was not anything outstanding or memorable. I may give it another try the next year around. It doesn’t hold me back from coming and trying their other drinks with curiosity. Overall, I would make the trek up from Toronto and return to grab a drink and a meal while I work and study at Mercantile again.
We got in the habit of visiting this place during the pandemic as businesses started to open up. It was nice to sit in a larger cafe that still felt cozy but not crammed. Often coming with a family and little kids, we have always been welcomed and found the environment to be family-friendly. In the summer, the patio is the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat before visiting the splash pad and market. In the winter, it's the perfect place to come and catch up with friends with a warm drink. The food and drinks are wonderful and this is the type of place you'll opt to drink out of a mug and stay a while.
The perfect place to catch up with a friend, study or grab a coffee before going on a walk! I go to Metropolis weekly and am always so impressed with my experience. I love their batch brew, lattes and hot chocolate. I've also heard their cinnamon buns are delicious next on my list of things to try!
Nice place and good coffee. The cafe is beside the trail. Great place to stop by after a walk. Nice patio too
