The fish is delicious! It tastes fresh and they get the food out quickly. This is not a sit down place and parking can be difficult at the wrong times but if you order ahead you can just pick up.Dine in: NoOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: YesDelivery: Yes
I love the art on the outside of the building! The most important part is the fish. Personally I get the Mrs. the fishes since I’m veggie tarian, but the food always smells delicious. She tells me that the jumbo shrimp is amazing, and I casually believe her. I eat her fries and I become addicted to the seasonings. All in all it’s a cultural spot that is worth it.
From a blk point of view out of towner. Nothing had seasoning. So although it smelled good it was not the best or worst...just fried fish. I had fried catfish and shrimp... they put the catfish on top of the fries which made them both soggy. I wouldn't come back if I was in the area.
Best fish for the best price! I was at the 5C's food truck, and ordered 5 shrimp and a coleslaw. They wanted $22.50! No bread, no nothing. I said heck no, cancel that. and ordered Mel's instead. I got 5 shrimp, coleslaw, grilled veggies, and two slices of bread for $12! Need I say more?
My friend and I had heard great things about Mel’s but somehow had never tried it, so we gave it a shot tonight and were not disappointed. The staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. We ordered there and it took a minute to prepare, but it was well worth the wait. The prices are great for the size of the meals and everything we had was delicious and tasted fresh. I’d highly recommend the fried filet of sole and peach cobbler. Do yourself a favor and stop by and grab a great dinner for you and your friends/family.
I don't know what's up with the last review. But they are definitely opened! Anywho this was my first visit here, found them on google then I was able to place a pickup order through chownow and 20 minutes later I walked in and it was ready the gentlemen that assisted me at the pickup window was nice. I ordered the shrimp and cajun catfish with potato salad and fries with a peach cobbler for dessert. Wow everything was delicious! My fries were a tad bit chilly but other then that I was satisfied with how they cook and fried my fish and shrimp. The peach cobbler was a little small I wish they offered a small and large size but man it was like one of the best peach cobblers I've ever had. I will be returning !
Local spot. Great tasting fish. Sides are tasty also. Call on the phone to place order. Walk in's will have a wait time . Priced right. Try the fresh grilled veggies with your order. I love the red snapper grilled with the veggies . Street parking. Best hole in the wall.
Love the little building. I ordered a 2 piece snapper. My 2 pieces of fish were too small. The fries had no salt on them. I'm going back a couple more times. It was really crowded the day I went.
I always find myself looking for food reminiscent of home in southern Virginia. So finding good southern fried fish and chicken on the west coast has been a challenge to say the least. My search continues as this was a major let down. I passed by here often and the line is always a mile long. I didn't like the cut of fish, the breading, the seasoning, the wait....nothing.
Fish is always fresh and Georgette, the owner, is always there with a genuine smile. You can tell she loves what she does and interacting with customers directly. I have a shrimp allergy and she always makes sure to cook my salmon separately. Love her salmon salad and the housemade dressing! Highly recommend.
