Story

Why we are not Marvel College:

From 1925-2000, a few of our campuses were called ‘Marvel’ but our Saskatoon campus was called ‘Marca’. After getting a letter from Marvel comics, legally banning us from using ‘Marvel’, we decided to brand all campuses under one name. The new name needed to reflect our passion for the industry and explain what we do. We decided to re-brand as ‘Masters of Cosmetology College’. The name was a bit long to say, write, text and type, so we shortened it to ‘MC College”.

I booked in for foils highlights. I was told that they cannot do foil highlights with some grey growth. The instructor was very rude and told me to leave because I told her it can be done. The instructor advised they are students and they cannot do this. The funny thing is is that I often have this procedure done at Estelle Academy where the students can do foils on grey growth and the instructors seem much more knowledgeable and skilled than what I experienced at MC College. The instructor was not at all a happy person who is interested in customer service or providing me with anything near what I had booked in for. The instructor picked a solid colour far too dark for my complexion since that is apparently the only colour service that MC College can teach their students for clients with any grey regrowth. Also, the instructor didn’t check-in throughout any of the hair service to actually teach or advice the student and she was left completely on her own without any mentorship that a student ought to receive. At Estelle Academy the instructors are very friendly and they often check-in with students at every step of the process, and the instructors actually use this as an opportunity to further the students education. At Estelle Academy the instructors actually teach the students instead of the students being left on their own to learn. I was also charged more for this solid colour than what is normally charged for this service. The student splashed colour everywhere and she wasn’t interested in cleaning it unless I asked her to. The black dye was splashed everywhere and at one point it even was splashed in my eye. The dye was even on my shoulders!! I felt so sorry for the student who is paying big bucks for their education, but quite obviously is getting a very substandard education that is not at all properly equipping them for a job in the real world. I would never recommend getting your education here and I would never recommend obtaining any hair service here because of the lack of skilled and professional instructors. I can attest that you will receive a far better and more thorough education and hair service at Estelle Academy and where the instructors are also friendly and nice.
I haven’t been to MC in about 8 years and I figured why not indulge in their $10 haircut special, a simple dye job and dyed brows. I called ahead of time to ask if all of these things could be done. The receptionist reassured me that it was possible. I have the easiest haircut a buzzcut it was a bit grown out. I am a woman and prefer my sideburns to be left alone. I showed her a picture of my last cut with colour and unfortunately the lady didn’t communicate with me because or ask what type of shape I wanted and she didn’t seem very confident in what I wanted. She kept asking if this is what I really wanted. While she cut my hair she was very quiet and was razoring behind my ears for quite sometime. I had my glasses off so I couldn’t see exactly what she was doing. When she finished I put on my glasses and was immediately upset. I’m very disappointed in the lack of courtesy. I don’t think I’ll be back. Please teach your students to communicate effectively with their clients. I hope this review improves the school. I won’t be going back.
I have been here for small trims maybe 5 times, each time it was wonderful! Today, however, was not good at all. I went in, and said I was growing my hair out it was a pixie cut that grew to about chin level, looked like a layered bob. I told her to leave the sides and front alone, and showed her that I only wanted the back trimmed on that specific bottom part where it was noticeably a bit longer on my neck. I pointed out specifically where I wanted the trim, and asked for no cutting anywhere else on my head. I had to stop her when she cut a huge chunk of hair around my ear on the side, where I specifically told her not to go. She cut it so short in the back it looks like she buzzed it with clippers! It goes halfway up the back of my head, I look like a soccer mom. The supervisor/instructor was really nice, she was able to fix it a bit and comped the haircut, and gave me some coupons. I just feel so sad, it took me a long time to grow it out and it looks insanely dorky now with a buzzed undercut look on the back and chin length bangs : I also spent a lot of time bleaching it and dying it, it seems like a waste now that I lost so much hair. I do understand it is a learning school, I am not mad and I know hair grows back, but I feel like this was a phenomenal f-up.
I booked an appointment last week for today at 9:00,only had to wait maybe a few minutes. On Tuesday's it is only $2.00 for a cut, which also includes shampooing your hair. The receptionist was very friendly. The stylist a girl name Sam was very friendly and professional and she explained what she was going to do as I had brought a picture in. The teacher came and checked her work,to make sure it was just right. I have thick hair and had it chopped really short,I am really happy with it.It is worth checking out the web site for additional deals The 7 to wem and the 110x Ec Claire's Stop across from it.The building has great views from all angles.Definitely would recommend.
I have been to this hair college before and I've never had a problem before. Until last Thursday, making an appointment for my mother and myself. Now we went on a discount day and knew it was going to be busy. I'm only going to talk about my experience because I had the worst of the two appointments. First off, my student stylist wasn't very friendly. Only talking when she was relaying what she was doing. She didn't wash out all the dye from my hair, going back 3 separate times to wash it out. For some reason it seemed like she didn't like touching hair at all. Then when she finally got to cutting my hair, she cut it uneven resulting in it being cut shorter then the picture I provided that I wanted it to look. With it finally being over, I felt rushed out to pay even though the instructor said it looked marvelous. Then once I got home, I looked in the mirror and a rash started on my forehead where the student was rubbing something to take off the dye from skin. I don't even know what it was... The last thing I would like to mention, the pricing for the discount colour day. I understand with myself, when I went in I understood with my hair being long and needed extra dye/attention. But when I found out they charged my mother the same price as me even though she has a pixie cut. If there wasn't a discount she would have paid $80 for a short hair dye job which is ridiculous. Set a specific amount instead of advertising a great deal thinking people they were to get a 25-35 dollar dye and cut.
HIGHLY Disappointing!! I went in for chemical straightening and it didn't even last after the 1st wash . The instructors barely checked in during the process, After the first cream was applied and washed, they did not even flat iron before putting in the neutralizer even though I asked about it. They did not even have enough products and ended up mixing two products for different hair types to compensate for the quantity, the instructor who suggested the student to do this was allowing something that clearly shouldn't be happening, I know this because I was paying attention to the products being used. I'm really disappointed by the whole experience and how the instructors handled it. I have really long hair, a treatment that usually takes a minimum of 3-4 hours was wrapped up in 2 hrs. I wouldn't complain about the student because she informed me that she was doing it for the first time. Even though she kept asking one of the instructors there wasn't enough support. This whole experience was so upsetting.
Very disappointed that an instructor took to finish my service early and ruined my hair in the process. I booked in for highlights, Multihplex and haircut by phone, was told it would take 4 hours. When the student ran her plan by the instructor she was told not to use Multihplex with highlights, even though the booking person I spoke with told me I could add the service as a treatment to protect hair when bleaching, similar to Olaplex. So fine, I agree to the service assuming the instructor knew best. Student agreed we could still get to level 8 or 9 and keep it a cool or ashy blonde, which was my only stipulation. The instructor kept coming by to rush the student, and eventually took over and started adding in random highlights after the rest had already processed for 45 minutes or so. I was concerned that she was working for hurriedly and mentioned I thought we still had over an hour...instructor explained she had to dismiss the student shortly, and we also wouldn't have time for haircut. Seems like central booking and local schools need to communicate better, as I was booked in for service until 6pm but apparently the students are dismissed at 5? As it turned out, the instructor rushed me out of there so fast the newest batch of highlights were very brassy, bright orange and not processed/toned to the same level as those done by the student. She said the toner would even things out but it has been 3 weeks and if anything, it looks worse and they are a stark contrast of warm orange against the rest of the cool blonde. Upsetting that an instructor demonstrated such sub-par, unprofessional service while training a future stylist, and on top of it I still had to pay the full price for a mess of cool and warm toned hair that looks like it was done at home with a kit, and no haircut or treatment as requested and being sent packing with a fast blowdry so my hair wasn't wet when I was rushed out of the salon. After the first at home wash and setting it to see if it looked any better styled didn't make much difference with blotchy warm tones throughout, impossible to cover I called to ask about coming back in to have it fixed or getting a refund, and they haven't called me back in the 3 weeks since. Very disappointing experience all around. I can't believe I spent money to be treated this terribly :
This was a great experience for my daughter and myself. I wasn't sure what to expect with it being students practicing but it was great. They were friendly and welcoming and open and honest about where their skills were. They asked questions when they weren't sure and honestly you can't beat the price for this experience!!! A whole spa day cost me less than $100 and I can't wait to go back!!
First, I want to shout out to Reet who graduates on Friday, August 26th. She was great in every way from attention to detail to conversation and awesome suggestions. It was a journey ey ti get my hair where I wanted it but Reet and the instructors were patient and creative in getting my color just right. The salon has an upscale feel for a great price. I'll definitely be back for conditioning treatments and spa services but I love Reet so will follow her for my cuts and color wherever she ends up.
Do not book any services here. They canceled on me 2 times when I already drove there and paid to park. Was turned away because they didn't have any staff. For a hair cut. Now today was called less then 24 hours noticed for my spa appointment and said they now have an event even though I booked it a month ago. It's ridiculous never had any issues years ago. They canceled on my mom after she drove all yhe way there as well wad told at the front nope no staff.
