In my experience from the two surgeries I have recently had at MatSu Regional- I have been very impressed.nFrom the beginning in admittance, to the end at discharge, there was not anything that was overlooked on behalf of my care. Truthfully, the nurses at each stage of the operation were amazingly kind, intelligently proficient and incredible personable. They made me feel at ease when surgery loomed ahead. In a world where unkindness reigns, and a nurse often sees nothing but a screen in front of them, these nurses rise above and see the people. I would highly recommend this facility for others.
Life continues its twists and turns. Went to the ER Thursday night 11/20/25 with I thought, was a kidney stone. Admitted 3 hour later with something altogether different. Surgery Saturday morning. From admittance to discharge I was in the care of the nursing staff assigned to the second floor in the area of room 216. What an incredible group of professionals. Smart, competent, helpful, pleasant, problem solvers. These nurses were as good as they come. Thank you
The nursing staff Amy, KaiLyn and Megan and Dr. Kujansuu were extremely helpful and personable. They patiently explained treatments and made certain all my questions were answered and that my concerns and needs were met.nnI felt welcome and comfortable in spite of my unfortunate circumstance for being at the Birthing Center a month earlier than scheduled.nnMy nurses and Dr. K were most courteous, kind and understanding. They made a very unpleasant situation as bearable as was humanly possible and were a blessing which filled a void that without their care and assistance would have left a huge hole in my heart.nnThey are wonderful caregivers and I was blessed to have them.nnThank You so very much and God Bless all of you!nnJhoanna Polya
I had acute appendicitis when I first visited the ER at Mat-Su in late afternoon. I was checked in quickly and after tests were done to confirm my illness, they prepared me for surgery that evening! Laparoscopic Appendectomy surgery went well and off to recovery. They put three small incisions on my abdomen during surgery.. Only had to stay in hospital for one day as I was released the evening after my surgery. Staff doctors, nurses, etc. were very friendly and provided appropriate information as well as answered my questions. They engaged in conversation easily and didn’t mind to chit chat for a short bit with me. I have to say I was impressed and blessed with their care. Thanks so much.
Let me say that I came into the ER quite disheveled looking like a homeless man, suffering from acute pain due to kidney stones. I only brought my drivers license and no wallet. The staff took me in reasonably quickly and provided relief for the pain and did some diagnosis. Even though they said, I have poor kidney function and possibly some mass in my chest, which they couldn’t discern, they seemed uninterested in investigating further or providing me someplace to rest while I wait for my ride from over two hours north. As a disabled veteran, all of my medical expenses are covered so I cant understand why they would push me out of the ER so quickly, knowing that I have nowhere to go or nowhere to stay. I moved to Alaska in June after I retired. One of the things I love about Alaska in general is the care for veterans . I served my country because it was my duty not to receive special favors. Veteran or not I felt like pushing somebody out of the ER when they have nowhere to go and not providing any place to wait is not a great policy. My initial thoughts were that This particular hospital appears not to care about veterans or even patients once they’ve done the minimum they want you out. The shining light in this situation came a few minutes after I was told my only option was in the lobby. A friendly and understanding security guard and veteran offered me to stay in the main lobby, which is closed to the public between 9 PM and 5 AM so that I might rest safely while waiting for my ride. This kind veteran’s name on his protective vest read “Will.” Will even brought me some sheets to help me stay warm. Will is my hero today in this hospital, and I’ll never forget his kindness, making him a true standout in the sea of apathy I experienced from most other staffers.
