Mary's Bake Shop in Kensington, PEI is perhaps not the fanciest or the most creative & artistic bakery but for a simple bakery they have the best Cinnamon Rolls, breads, fried chicken and potato wedges you can find anywhere. On our stay on the island we stopped at Mary's for some cinnamon rolls and we got hooked. The cinnamon rolls are awesome although they don't have any icing or frosting on them. The next day we ordered more cinnamon rolls $2 each, 4 pieces of fried chicken $8.75, small container of beef barley soup $6 and small size potato wedges $4.25 or as they call it, taters! The fried chicken was one of the best we've ever had. The beef barley soup had plenty of veggies and potato and was delicious. The potato wedge were fried on the spot, they were crisp and well seasoned and the portion was plenty for two people and leftover for later. Obviously this place is a favorite of locals as we were waiting for our order we saw people come and pick up loaves of bread and packaged of cookies and other baked goods. Service is friendly and attentive. We'll definitely go back.
Do not go to Kensington without going to Mary's!!! Best bakery for quite a ways around. They are busy in the summer so arrive early for your baked goods or call ahead and order. They are seriously the best sweets and bread you will ever eat!!! Highly highly recommend.
Mary's cinnamon rolls are the best on the planet. They are not smothered in icing, or drowned in sugar, they are just delicious flaky pastry and cinnamon... Absolutely perfect. They are really great about letting you bring your own bags too! If you call in advance and tell them what you want and when you'll be there, they will set it aside for you to come pick up in your own container everything on the shelves is bagged in single-use soft plastic. Before we leave the island, we always stock up on cinnamon rolls for friends and family back in NYC.
Do you like cinnamon rolls, then come early. We were late and missed them today but we did get a fantastic Coconut Cream Pie. The flaky crust is fantastic. The rolls are very good also.
Best baked goods on the island! Better get there early if you want brownies, they go fast! :
Baked beans 5 stars. Get them in the morning before they sell out. This year we also tried the strawberry tarts and ginger snaps and both were winners.
The place to go for big thick cinnamon buns, all their food is delicious, I stop here every time I visit the Island
So many baked items to tempt the tastebuds with... this bakery makes fabulous cinnamon buns. Worth the drive into town for the cinnamon buns alone.
Delicious baked goods, staff is super nice as well. Oh with the decline in KFC quality I tried the Mary's fried chicken. Do yourselves a favor and pick some up. Absolutely delicious chicken
Cinnamon rolls and gingerbread men are staples for us when we visit PEI. Delicious.
