This is truly the best park in the western part of MN, and on one the best in the state. It is known for its great fall colors, as they are excellent, but is really a great park of all seasons. Has great campgrounds, camper cabins, fishing, swim beach and day use area. Hiking and biking and snowmobiling are excellent in this park. Great trails throughout. Nice wilderness drives as well including an active church surrounded by the park. Also a destination for horse back riding having one of the biggest horse camps in the state with lots of trails. Top it off it is known for its great and unique fishing including Muskie and Trout. All this is packed into a smaller park that feels much larger.
An absolute beautiful park. It's so nice this time of year. Beautiful colors, great walking trail, and a driving trail. It's dog friendly so you can bring dogs here.
One of my favorite state parks. Very beautiful!! Love it year round, but would have to say fall one of my favorite times to visit. The hike to the top is breathtaking and relaxing. Not to mention not hard or too long. Even my kids loved it. We stay at the beach area and even though there isn't a playground the kids love runnig around and playing with the things they bring from home surrounded by water, trees, and such beauty all around.
I love young to Maplewood to get away. I shouldn't review it so positively, so more people avoid it! You will love it here. The scenery is some of the best of any MN State Park I've been to. The Ranger is always so friendly and professional.
We really liked this park except that it was a three and a half hour drive from the Minneapolis-St Paul area. I brought my two boys, ages 5 & 7 tent camping and we hiked about 21 KM of paths. They were especially fond of the interpretive path on the way in the had frogs everywhere on the path, it made for a fun diversion. The sites were very well shaded with good places to put the tent and hiking near by. We stayed at the Knoll Campground in site 57 near the bathrooms. The bathrooms were clean but spartan, no water or showers. I dropped the score on the park because there were a number non-working faucets and water spigot which was more annoying than painful. We saw lots of wildlife including turtles, deer, frogs, swans, birds, etc. The kids really liked the park, more than some others we've been to and asked to go again. None of the buildings were active while we were there and dry weather helped keep the bugs down. There were a number of good interpretive trails about homestead and maple syrup harvesting. On a positive note, there are a number of breweries in the area and we were able to stop at a couple to pick up to go beer. Overall great but could use some work. On the facilities.
Great picnic area to have party for family and church members and climb up the hill to watch the sunset
Beautiful park in all seasons! At over 9,000 acres you can get lost here!
What a beautiful state park. The whole park was very well kept, clean bathrooms and campgrounds. The trails were also very nice, I suggest the interpretive trails, which explain the flora and geology of the park. There is lots of biodiversity in the varied landscapes in the park like forests, lakes, cattail marshes, and prairie clearings. I will definitely be returning to this park.
The leaves will be perfect color for the next few days now, so plan your trip! The trails are great for hiking!
Very large pretty park with multiple lakes. We walked to a pretty overlook and picnic at a beautiful picnic area.
