I have sent letter asking for permission for the photo real photo of Joseph and Anna Kiefer to be posted.
I used Malinoski and Danyluik Funeral Home for two of my pregnancy losses. All of the staff were amazing. Very kind, gentle, patient, helpful, understanding and professional people. They dealt with all the harder details and had excellent communication while allowing me time to grieve. They returned the cremated remains to me as soon as they were able and followed up with me during my grieving process. The memorial service they hold provided a lovely memory and further opportunity for closure.
The best outstanding customer service.nExtremely compassionate and understanding staff!nSo much dedication, time, effort and energy put into there planning it always shows!nThey have the warmest and customized modern services!nThe keepsakes they offer are absolutely stunning so many incredible options!
When someone passes, families are grieving, overwhelmed, and not in the right frame of mind to question every charge. That vulnerability should never be taken advantage of—but in my experience, it absolutely was.nnI also want to be clear—I wasn’t in a position to push back the way I normally would. I had my grieving wife and mother-in-law in the room, and that added a lot of weight to the situation. It’s not the time or place to argue or “freak out,” and that’s exactly why families rely on funeral homes to act with integrity. Looking back, stronger advocacy in that moment may have made them second guess the kind of pricing being presented.nnBeing charged over $350 for a basic cardboard container is not reasonable. There’s no justification for that kind of markup other than taking advantage of people during one of the hardest moments of their lives. That’s not care—that’s price gouging.nnTo make matters worse, it was even brought up that the government may cover up to $5,000 of funeral costs. In my opinion, just because there might be assistance available does not make inflated pricing acceptable. If anything, that mindset encourages higher pricing—not fair pricing—and families are the ones who end up paying for it.nnWhat says everything is that after I raised concerns, the charge for the cardboard container was removed. If a fee can just disappear when questioned, it should never have been there in the first place.nnFrom my own research—after calling around to multiple funeral homes across Saskatchewan—I strongly believe we were overcharged by roughly $2,500 to $3,000. That’s not a small difference, and it raises serious concerns about pricing practices.nnThis is also not my first experience dealing with this. When my mom passed, the first funeral home we spoke to quoted around $7,000 for essentially the same level of service. We kept looking and found a more compassionate funeral home that handled everything for under $1,500—and they provided a proper urn, not just a plastic or basic container. That alone proves this can be done at a fair price without taking advantage of people.nnAt a time when compassion and transparency should come first, this felt like the exact opposite. Instead of being supported through the process, it felt like unnecessary costs being pushed onto a grieving family.nnAfter many long nights thinking about this, this is my honest review.nnThis experience left such a bad impression that it honestly made me consider starting my own funeral service in this area—one that actually prioritizes fairness, transparency, and genuine empathy for families going through loss.nnFamilies deserve better than this.
