So, so delicious and satisfying! From apps to entree, all are aromatic and flavorful, proteins are tender, Nepali Momo’s prepared freshly. Limited seating, but service is kind and attentive. We dine in, for those BYOB, bring a corkscrew!
Went on a day that I think the indoor seating was closed - was going to order takeout but was offered a seat to dine-in so we took it. The food was very delicious, super flavorful and tasty and the serving size is great. Totally extra for left overs :- English was not understood super well so there was a little difficulty understanding each other at times. That being said, we got the food we ordered and paid and left happy! Would totally order again :
We were looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon this resto. The food were excellent and staff were friendly. Ordered samosa chaat, mango Lassi, lamb curry and aloo gobi. I would definitely recommend and would try to come back.
When you need home cooked comfort food, Makalu definitely is up there in value and taste. A small nondescript place at colchester should not be mistaken for the power packed goodness of the taste and flavors that the food gets. We tried their Thukpa soup, dal, aloo gobi and some chicken dishes and each of them had their own unique flavor, texture and spices and curated to your taste. Order a takeout or sit down and eat at the small homely kitchen style tables and Theo food will make you happy!!
The food is amazing!! So delicious! The best Nepali, Indian food I ever ate! This is a "hole in the wall" restaurant, so if the atmosphere is more important to you than the taste and quality of the food, just order it 'to go.'.
First time here. Unbelievably amazing, authentic, and fresh. Kind and genuine people working here. The butter chicken was the best we have ever eaten. Potato chili appetizer and cauliflower 65 appetizer complimented each other so well. I have no doubt this entire menu is just delectable. Dietary restrictions: Lots of delicious gluten-free options that were labeled on the menu
Tons of veggie and non-veggie options. Very diverse menu. The veggie samosas were crispy, large and flavorful. The chili tofu has a nice kick to it. Definitely going back.
Everything was absolutely delicious!! Very kind and warm environment! Try it!
I will start by saying that we have ordered from Makalu three times. The first two times we were very impressed. I can’t remember all the stuff we got, but the coconut lamb curry is to die for! Now, this place is just a bit pricey. But if I’m getting a meal I absolutely love the price is worth it to me, especially if there is enough to fill me up. Actually the last time I got the lamb curry I think it lasted me 2 meals. Tonight was the third time we ordered food here. My husband was making some tikka masala for dinner but we didn’t know what to do for a vegetable, so I suggested getting some sides from Makalu. I ordered the Daal Soup and the Lasuni Gobi fried cauliflower. I was very disappointed to discover when I got home how insanely small the portions were. There were maybe 7 small pieces of cauliflower, which was $10. And there was only a one-cup no that is not a typo…. one cup… 16oz container of Daal, which was $7. We ordered papadums as well which were good and fairly priced. I am very understanding of the fact that food costs are rising and I always tip well, but this seemed unreasonable, especially with vegetables and lentils. Overall I paid about 25$ for what was listed above, which did include a 4$ tip. We will certainly order the things we know we are satisfied with again from here, but I’m just bummed. Leaving a three-star review for inconsistency.
Been here a few times for takeout. Really loved it until recently. I would drive 25 mins to pick up. 7 out of 10 times it’s been phenomenal. Tonight not so much. Very dry. So sad
