Very fun decorated house, with a pleasant host. Bedrooms had a cute vibe, but pretty small. Bathrooms are shared unless you buy a room with a small bathroom. The walls are very thin and the floors creek. Hard to be discreet. We got told there was gonna be eggs and bacon for breakfast, but the next morning, when my old grandma woke up to the smell of eggs, and went down to eat, there was no eggs. Turned out the host ate upp the eggs himself! He was a very sweet man though, and baked pancakes for us. When leaving we had to pay in cash, and the man had a marijuana smell to him, that indicates he probably smoked weed, may not be the worst but a bit scary considering his personality may be different compared to when he’s clean.nnThe porch and walkway up to the house was fully crooked, he had put wood bricks under the railings to keep them upright.nnThe host was very sweet, kind to the kids, and informed us about the time zones. If you want an easy but interesting hotel I recommend going there!
An authentic 1910s architectural experience with a farmer’s breakfast that may bring shocks both delightful and distasteful.nnIt was a short walk from downtown. We ate at a Vietnamese restaurant nearby and strolled on the trail by the river until sunset.nnWe had two rooms, one 1st floor and one 2nd floor. Both were small, colorful, and abundantly decorated with hangings and frames. It was like living inside a museum.nnOne bathroom has a sink that has two faucets, one for steaming hot water only, and the other for freezing cold water only. In other words, you need a container to get warm water which you can wash your hands with.nnYou need your own shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. You may use the new soaps and the towels that the house provides. The shower needed professional fine tuning before it would provide water in the right temperature we failed to do that.nnThere were two stairs: one hidden and narrow, connecting the 1st and the 2nd floor; one open and wide, leading from the 2nd floor toward the yard.nnEvery board on the ground was squeaky and no door stops on its own if not stopped.nnMr. McKenzie was a man passionate about running this place. He bought it back in 1995, saving it from its planned demolition, and transformed it into a slightly newer and significantly safer house that it is now. He was there when we arrived at 4, he was still awake at 11, and he got up before 7. He allowed us to use his fridge for the night. He told us stories during breakfast.nnWe didn’t find heaters, and the ACs through the window were either fan-only or sending cool air. The blackout curtain was difficult to operate when I tried to let the sun in.nnMy breakfast was ployes healthier pancake, syrup, and jams. Other options included cereal and bread with bread heater.nnIf you come for business, avoid at all costs. If you come for culture, you will have an amazing experience.
Staying one night on the way to Gaspe.nIt is old Victoria age style B&B, not hotel.nOwner is friendly but he asked me to pay again however I booked through Expedia with providing my credit card number.nCalled to Expedia then confirmed they didn't charge to my credit card then paid cash.nOne night is OK for single or couple travelers but not with kids.nBuilding is old without amenities but if you want to experience unique staying, try.
Mike is a great host, the house itself is really cool and old which i loved. Homemade jam was amazing
At first, when I came out of the car: “No! L’hôtel! Noooo...”nIsn’t this a home? This isn’t a hotel!!nAfter I went in the hotel, I saw old decorations from 1910’s, I immediately felt lonely and wanted to cry. However, even it is old, it is relatively clean. Then, an old man appeared and spoke English to us.nHe is kind and funny, so that’s why I gave “Service” four stars. One star off because of no shampoo nor conditioner nor body wash in the bathroom.nI gave “Room” three stars because the rooms are so small and narrow, I can’t even walk properly like yesterday. And when I was walking, the floor made screeching noises. And very importantly: the bed sheets are a little bit dirty.nFor “Location”, I gave it four stars because it is very close to restaurants and the river.nA sad thing is that the bathroom doesn’t have shampoo nor conditioner nor body wash.nAnother sad thing is that my mom’s hands were burning because of the bad control of the shower head.nEven there’s too many disadvantages, there are a lot of lovely photos in the hallways.nThe breakfast has cereal and bread and pancake. What kind of breakfast is this? This is even worser than Auberge Presbytère Mont Lac-vert! Appetizer+appetizer+appetizer!nWhich comment says that the breakfast is good?! Eh?nOverall rating: two stars. I will not stay in these types of hotel in the future.
