This place is outstanding for the views alone. If you are visiting the area, a must. If you are able to get a spot to stay, even better. Friendly staff, nice bathrooms and showers, playground, paved bike/walking trail, great wi-fi and a great rocky beach to get your rock hounding on. The best though are the sunsets which are breathtaking. Talk about picturesque. This is the place to be in Petoskey especially if you're in an RV. Highly recommend staying here as long as you can. Spot 31 & 13 were where I stayed. Electric and Water only but they have a very accessible dump station that I used effortlessly. Oh there is even a cabin you can rent if you happen not to own an RV. Spots fill quickly so plan ahead.
This place stinks! The campground is nice and the staff is great but it’s next to a wastewater treatment plant. A western wind brings the smell right over the camp. But even worse is the hospital right behind the camp. Everyday they release a foul methane smell that’s awful.
I recommend wearing either water shoes or some other type of foot covering at this beach as it is extremely rocky and not a sand beach. It is a very good spot for rock hunting and my family has had a lot of luck there. It's also usually less busy than the state park though it is a considerably smaller beach. Overall, I personally enjoy this beach a ton but it may not be what everyone is looking for in a beach.
We found a lot of Petoskey Stones here. We also ran into a very nice lady who told us where to find Petoskey Stones, which is towards the left side of the park if you're facing the water.
Nice quiet little campground right on the water. Bathrooms are clean. Showers are sufficient. Fire pits at each site. Wifi strong enough to stream. The Little Traverse Wheelway that connects Harbor Springs to Charlevoix runs right through the park. We did not experience any odor from the waste water treatment plant next door. I never would have known it was there except someone pointed it out. I would highly recommend this for an inexpensive camping getaway.
I loved this location for rock hunting. The only issue I had was how slippery the rocks were and the location is within a "campground" type of place. The beach and walk around was beautiful. It has a lot to offer. I just figured it would be a little different, but this type of different was good for rock hunting alone. Recommend water shoes if you plan to rock hunt, or be sure to sit in water if planning a longer rock hounding session.
Great place to fly kites and find Petoskey stones.Location: 5/5
What a hidden gem shhhh! Staff was helpful and courteous during check in. We did reserve a spot ahead of time online. The sites for the tents and small campers were great, nicely shaded and cleaned up well before arrival. We did notice the campsites with full hookup looked smaller, but we were tent camping so it didn't matter for us. The playground was a nice activity for our little ones and the beach was GORGEOUS! We found our fair share of Petoskey stones here. The bathroom was very clean as clean as a campground bathroom could get. Wonderful getaway
We averaged $35 / night for W/E30/I for a very level, gravel, mostly shady back in site. This is a quaint little campground right on the bay in Petoskey. The only downside is that sites were near each other and it felt a little cramped. I would definitely still stay here again. We did the Tunnel of Trees drive. In early October the leaves were quite at peak color but it was still a pretty drive. Downtown Petoskey is only a few minutes away. There appear to be many shops and restaurants but we were only here a short time and did not get to check them out.
Such a great place to camp. It’s right on little traverse bay with the bike trail running along it.
