As an out of towner, this was probably my favorite meal in Portland! Everything was sooo flavorful and delicious! The host was able to get us a table outside. It was covered and the heater kept us warm! Our server was so nice and fun to talk to. This place warmed my heart! Definitely a must if you’re visiting and ESPECIALLY if you live there!!
Small place with indoor and outdoor seating. Since we were a large party, we tasted the entire menu. Drinks were very tasty and most plates were fantastic. Some of the skewers were a little bland, but the sauce helped if you are not used to organ meats. The main entrees were mostly excellent too. Desserts were great, especially the flan inspired one!! Great little place to try!! The atmosphere and service were what made it excellent!!! Thanks Roberto!!!
Reserved online on a Thursday and bookings were slim, but luckily got a table. Love the Lumpia or Filipino style egg rolls. My wife really loved the whole red snapper. My daughter got the oxtail and tripe and she said it was ok. Bit rich. I had various skewers and my favorite was the wagyu beef. Unique cocktails with a Filipino flare to them. Ambiance was casual and servers were all super friendly.
What a wonderful experience and meal. The ambiance and vibe in there is so great. The food was incredible. Everything was so flavorful. We requested recommendations from our server, Tim, and we couldn't have been happier. It's a small, quaint place. So, don't expect to be there for hours, as they need to be able to seat other reservations. But this doesn't take away from the experience at all. We started with the Maja Blanca and Mabuhay Mojito cocktails, which were so unique and good! Next we had skewers, scallops and shisito peppers, followed by Mom's Crab Fat Noodles wow!!!. The vegetable dish of the day was kale in coconut milk soooo good. Then on to Sisig crispy pork bits and garlic rice. We finished with a nice dessert wine and the Biko coconut sticky rice. Everything was incredible. We can't wait to return!
This is probably the best food/dining experience I’ve had in portland. We went without reservations, when it was packed, and we still got a table fairly quick. The staff was super friendly and kept checking in on us and giving us updates on timing. I think the owner even checked on us, baby in hand and everything—it was cool to see this was truly a family place which it felt like! It was busy but everyone was HUSTLING. They still found time to joke with each other and you could tell they genuinely enjoy working with each other. Our server kindly explained all the menu options to us and the best ways to order. The pineapple cocktail was incredible—tasted like dole whip but better and alcoholic. The Sisig with the egg is an absolute must. The lumpia are expertly wrapped with a thin, light exterior that has excellent crunch. Might even be better than my mom’s but don’t tell her that. Duck tocino and ahi skewers were so succulent and flavorful. The halo halo for dessert is required too—cold, creamy, crunchy, jelly, sweet—it’s everything. Seriously can’t say enough good things about this place. All the flavors and textures were so balanced and nuanced from vinegary, to sweet, to spicy—so perfect. And the friendliest staff in town—the whole team stopped to say bye as we left. You have to go.
Every dish was as delicious as the last. Each plate had a lot of thought, effort, and love put into it. Plus Eric from Tim and Eric likes this place so you know it's gonna be great.
Where do I start to share about such a delectable evening? We made reservations weeks ago. The waiting was hard but oh, so worth it. It's not just the energetic vibe as you walk in, but that is so welcoming. Watching Chef Carlo call out orders and oversee each dish prepared for each table is amazing. And of course, there is the food, the heart of the evening. Oh man, the unique flavors of Filipino cuisine ... both traditional and many twists from the @twistedfilipino himself. Perhaps the most memorable ending was for Chef Carlo to join us at the table, reminisce of his life in the Philippines, in English for us, in Filipino for the Sampans. Carlo is a gracious host who offers each patron a fabulous meal to remember, and leaves us ready to book our next reservation. #magnakusina #chefcarlolamagna #jamesbeardnominee #foodandwinebestnewchef2021 #foodandwine #twistedfilipinocuisine
My girlfriend and I were excited to try Magna Kusina after a glowing referral from a trusted friend. We arrived on time for our 7pm reservation and were promptly seated. Our server, Tim, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the various menu items. He instantly made us feel welcomed and answered all of our questions. My girlfriend and I shared an order of Lumpia, Pancit Bihon, and Longanisa followed by Biko for dessert. The food was flavorful and the temperature was spot on. Throughout dinner, Tim was very attentive and made sure we were taken care of. By 8:07pm 1 hour & 7 minutes after being seated, we finished our main course and dessert. As we were paying, the host told us we have to hurry up because they need our table. This put a damper on an otherwise excellent night of dining out. I normally would not return due to the host telling us we needed to hurry after just an hour and seven minutes of being seated, but Tim's excellent service made up for the host's lack of restaurant decorum. I recommend Magna Kusina based on the food and Tim's attentiveness and hope my experience with the host was a one-off.
Came around 6p on a Thursday night and were seated right away. Ordered the Pinoy Daiquri and it was excellent! Our server was great explaining everything on the menu. Pork belly and squid skewers were delicious. Food was excellent taking a modern twist on Filipino classics. Highly recommend!
Amazing!! The staff were so nice and gave great suggestions since this was our first time having Filipino food! I had the Mabuhay Mojito which was the best cocktail I’ve had in a long time! We ordered the Lumpia, Sisig, and Pancit Miki-Bihon which were all delicious, but the Sisig was especially delightful! Can’t wait to come again!
