Every time you go to a celebrity chef’s restaurant for the first time, you’re hoping that the hype is worth it, and it isn’t an overpriced taste of some fusion type of food. Unfortunately, my experience at Luckee was definitely of the former; overpriced and completely average. I and two others had the Dim Sum for four, which added to about $210 all in with tax and tip. With three people eating the portion size for four, we were still hungry at the end of the meal. While not objectively bad, the dim sum was completely average; in fact, I would argue that there are numerous places in Chinatown that have better dim sum. The fried rice was dry and lacked any real flavor. The offerings might be a creative take on traditional Chinese dim sum, but the dishes just don’t taste GOOD. For the price, I feel like you’re paying more for the service and the environment as opposed to the food. Service is top-notch and very attentive, and the atmosphere is fancy without making you feel stuffy. However, it won’t make it for the thoroughly disappoint food. Maybe I, as a Chinese person growing up on my dad’s cooking and the local family-run restaurant, just don’t understand the uniqueness of the dishes. I won’t be back in the future.
Very cool vibe and awesome menu of non - traditional dim sum. Highly recommend the Rainbow Basket from the menu and then the options from the carts. The cocktails are excellent although I was surprised there weren't twists on the brunch standards line Bloody Mary or mimosa. They lost a star because I was starving and the carts felt like they took forever to show up and our server was new and slightly clueless about brunch service.
The food was alright. I think I would still prefer traditional dim sum with a better balance of portion and price. The various steamed Siu Mai and dumpling felt a bit more dry than I cared for. The Luckee Hargow was my favorite. These were essentially the shrimp dumplings. There's the perfect amount of dough and shrimp. One dish that wasn't advertised on the menu online was the Kobe beef rice bowl. I found that just okay. The beef was really grounded up and felt like next to none. The presentation was very nice with an egg quail? on top, but I used up quite a bit of their hot sauce to finish it. Personally, I wouldn't go to this higher end restaurant again for lunch or dinner. It might be better to stop along the way to snack on. Overall, service is way above average, but the dim sum is not something I find extraordinary.
The best ‘Western style’ Chinese food restaurant. Indeed, the flavour is quite authentic. No starch wrapped food. No deep fried. No sweet & sour seasoning. Service is above average. I’m plannning to choose Luckee for my wedding catering next year.
I’m really not sure what the mixed reviews are about here. If you’re looking for a Chinatown dim sum spot, this isn’t it. I’d call it an elevated alternative. Not only is it a gorgeous space, with amazing service, but even the food quality was unwavering. You could taste the quality! Rich flavour, super fresh and hot, crunch in all the right places, and soft and tender where need be too. Menu must haves: - the Cheung fun is to die for! Probably my most favourite on the menu - the Luckee Duck was delicious, and this is coming from someone who shies away from it at Other chinese restaurants - the lobster Xiao Long Bao is... wow. Probably one of the best Soup dumplings I’ve ever had! - the Crispy Crab Popsicle is delicious. You know when you bite into a “crab” dish and you immediately know its imitation crab, well this isn’t it. You can taste the real crab meat texture and flavour from every last bite! Don’t forget to take a peek at what they got on their dim sum carts, we had some delicious bbq pork steamed buns, and so much more! If you want amazing chinese dim sum, with better service, atmosphere and cleanliness, this is it! Kudos to chef Lee on another great hit in the city.
Not your typical chinese food, but chinese food that's "elevated". It is pricey for what it is, but I would recommend trying it when in Toronto. The food is delicious. Not a bad idea to go with one of the set menus at lunch as an introduction to this place.
Love this place! It’s pricey but you won’t go terribly wrong with anything on the menu. Cheung fun has always been my favourite dish there. Sad to hear that it’s closing permanently soon.
I went for Winterlicious. The set menu was good, but I was expecting more since it's a Susur Lee restaurant. The food is more westernized rather than authentic Chinese food. Dessert was delicious though. I'd probably give it another try in the future but not sure if it's worth the price.
Friends wanted to try this for summerlicious since they like Asian fusion. I was expecting alot but prior to coming I was reading reviews and set my expectations lower. Im Chinese and eat alot of Chinese food and from different Asian countries as well. I must say the decor and service was really good. Very attentive and polite and made good recommendations. First I got a salad. Not a very common Chinese dish. But it had a peanut sauce with deep fried rice crispy and had a ton of chicken strips mixed with few slices of cantolope and cucumbers. I did not find anything to be too spectacular and the fusion things I didn't find any effect and taste. I got the braised beef which was very normal and something you can find even in a Chinese food court mixed with a rice noodle which you can also find better ones at some dim sum places. So this dish wasn't special nor amazing for a restaurant of this calibre For dessert the mango pudding was sour maybe the mango they chose was that and may not be consistent. The sesame ball covered with chocolate was too sweet. But maybe made for a different pallet. And the last cake wasn't that good as well. I don't think I'll come back. I find for the stuff I got was over priced and would of had better Chinese food else where for less than half the cost, even at summerlicious prices are pretty high.
Excellent service with a twist of authentic Chinese cuisine blended with Western cuisine presentation. In my opinion the dish is slightly salty. Food: 4.5 out of 5 Food presentation: 5 out of 5 Service: 5 out of 5 Ambience: 4.6 out of 5 Price: 2 out of 5, it's pricey but it's worth the price. Overall: 5 out of 5
