This is an average pub you would typically find along a main downtown street in any town. Older building with old dated decor... typical pub. It must be decent for late drinks as the bar is long and there are lots of tvs and I imagine the late night atmosphere is good.. but for food its just ok.. the meals are ok, cheap and good portions. it wasn't busy so the meals arrived quickly. and the service was good. The biggest issue is that we all smelled like a deep fat fryer as the place is not ventilated properly so you come out smelling like that and it doesn't go away unless you wash your clothes.
Went to the Ale House after 8 for $7 apps. It was also Wednesday so they had $8 burger special too. I ordered a poutine, chick-fil-eh and tzatziki dip. The g.f. got the basic burger with poutine. The poutine was good, great portion size for the app menu. The chick-fil-eh was a little dry, good concept but I wouldn't order again. The tzatziki dip was probably the best of the three apps. The g.f. said the burger was really good, much better than a Chucks Roadhouse burger which would be similar price. The beers were great, they have an amazing selection, best in London. They also had Grolsch on for $4. We shared the heavenly has brownie trifle for dessert. It was awesome for a $5 dessert. Our waitress Samantha was great, friendly and speedy service. Bill was just over $50 which is great value especially in these times. One strange thing is the sign outside said 40 cent nuggets but when I tried to order some apparently they weren't on sale??? Weird because the leafs game at 8pm part of the sign was very accurate. Regardless I would return and would recommend the Ale House.
A great place to chill, good drinks and beer was good but sadly the food is an absolute disaster! We ordered chicken wings and not only they were not fresh they had this very unpleasant salty taste. The small veggie on the side was rotten and old. We ordered tacos and it tasted like freezer still not cooked properly. The staff was super unfriendly to the point where you would not believe it. We thought we were hidden camera and they were testing us. We understood it was shortly after 11:00 P.M and the kitchen would close at mid night and the staff was tired on a Tuesday night but it doesn't give them the right to be this unfriendly. We still tipped her 10% and spent $62 dollars for eating the worlds most terrible food there. Sadly it was our last time going there. The chef will burn this place down with serving the most horrible food. We felt bad for the owner of this place.
Great calmer bar to hang out in. Smaller, in a less busy part of downtown but still easily accessible by any transportation. Cheap food and beer, and the deli sandwiches are delicious. Very kind staff and good atmosphere for talking and watching sports on the TVs.
If I could give 0 stars I would. Horrible staff and management. I came in one night with a friend and was told I could get my drink for the deal they have every day, so I made sure to tip well, only to be told on another night by the same person that I could not. Upon questioning my bill I was scolded against and talked to very rudely. I however still gave the establishment chance and kept going back weekly spending a lot of money. Everyone who I have went with agrees the staff are very cold and rude and take forever for service. The owner jay has discriminated against me and has a clear vendetta and has banned me for no reason. I have found out he has told ppl I am annoying and I don’t tip, both which are very false. He doesn’t care but I left in tears when finding out. DO NOT GO HERE. Just because there was a discrepancy with the price doesn’t give anyone the right to treat anyone this way. As a hairstylist I don’t just change my prices or talk bad about my clients…this place is so unprofessional and they don’t care about service. Looking at all these reviews it has come to my attention that I’m not the only one who feels this way and upon doing my research he is in no financial place to turn away customers. I will be telling everyone I know not to go here.
Went there for taco Tuesday Order 6 tacos ate 1.5 Server came to clear table saw I didn't eat ask if I needed take out and told him No I'm good. He didn't even ask it they where alright. Nothing just went on his way. Well not be back smell like cigarettes smoke and food was not wroth the discounted and the server Oblivious to his tables could have easily fixed the problem asked a few more questions or at least when I went to pay the bill when I informed him of the quality of his product he could have done something at that point not even a Sorry I've been a chef in the city for a long time and I must say They should really lose the taco Tuesday
Such a treat and a completely serendipitous discovery while we were out enjoying the Christmas festivities at Downtown. This place has an old world charm that I find enjoyable. Appetisers at $7 is certainly a great way to experience a variety of food. They also serve a variety of beers at great prices. Overall, this is a very reasonable place to dine that also offers a great ambience! Thank you to our host Casper for her excellent service.
1st and last time going here. I decided to try out a new place. Arrived around 6pm to have a few drinks with a friend. The beer was great. Crisp and clean and cold. However.... when we switched over to liquor it was a blatant rip-off. I ordered a rye and coke and my friend a rum and coke. Started sipping when I noticed that I could barely taste anything other than water and coke with a hint of wiskey. I asked my friend if I could try his drink and to my surprise the same thing. I then asked the server what type of wiskey they used. It turned out to be the same thing I've been drinking for 15 years. I know exactly how that drink SHOULD taste. Out of sheer curiosity I asked for another. The waitress then asked me if it were a single or double. Puzzled as she had served me not long ago I had said single. I get it. It's easy to forget if you're the only server. However typically a rye and coke is a single rye and coke......I digress. The second one tastes exactly the same. Watered down... Needless to say I told my friend not to ask for another rum and we just politely paid the bill and left next door to Crabby Joe's. Ordered the exact same drink and................ Wouldn't you know it! Tastes just like it should. Nice little scam you have on the liquor there Ale House. That's one way to get people to order doubbles. Bad experience. Wouldn't recommend.
First time visiting this pub with my husband and we loved it! The beer garden is beautiful, our waiter was awesome, very attentive. The food was great as well, we will definitely be back when we are in London next!
When I entered the place I had high hopes. But they did not pan out. The waitress was mediocre at best. The food was cheaply priced with even less quality. If you are in Univesity it maybe acceptable. But if you are over 21 avoid this place.
