Loft 112 is a creative space in the East Village where writers and artists can work, write, teach and collaborate together. The space is affordable.

Story

Loft 112 is commercial space + loft apartment at #112 535 8 Ave SE in Calgary’s East Village that serves as a center for writers and artists of all kinds from the Calgary literary, arts and academic community. Loft 112 is a creative hive where ideas are given space to develop, a place where emerging writers, readers, artists and poets are supported, a place where unheard voices are given a platform and a place of collaboration. Each month the Loft aims to host public, collaborative and group-specific programs and projects from poetry and prose readings, youth activities, cocktail parties, film screenings, seminars, lectures, dinners, workshops, art exhibits, and musical performances. Writers and artists can work, write, teach and collaborate in the "hive" space-- an open, dynamic, multipurpose room with a kitchen, moveable furniture and space for conversation. The Loft aims to eventually have a strong virtual presence, an archived library and materials and equipment for creating small publication projects.

Mission

Loft 112 believes that students enrolled in academic programs and members of the larger Calgary community will benefit from an affordable space in which creative writing activities are organized, promoted, and shared. A central and established location for such a centre will enable individuals and groups to reserve affordable space in which to meet and engage other writers in such activities and find a place in which disparate groups can work together. The presence of a centralized writing community will attract different writing groups to come together to share work, learn and teach, and celebrate both the art and study of contemporary word and art.
