Beautiful, peaceful camp ground with many sites right above the river. Well kept & maintained. Spacious sites with privacy. Will return again & again.
The campground has various sized sites be aware of #23; this site is tiny and not meant for a large two-room tent. Really it only has room for one car too. #24 is much bigger with room for two tents and two cars. These are both on the highway side, which is a drawback but not too bad. The site host is friendly and has a beautiful sweet dog.
Peaceful secluded campground with only a Few spots so it’s not crowded. One side of the loop is river front, the other side is right on the highway so you hear and see the cars go by. The vault bathrooms smell strongly of the chemicals they have to use. *If you have small children many of these sites are dangerous, there’s no barrier between them and a cliff to the river or on the other side they could run into highway traffic. I wouldn’t consider this a family friendly campsite.
Reservations online were easy. Vital stats that were hard to find though: 1.NO running water. Anywhere. Vault toilets and a hand pump 2. The firepits DO have grates to cook over. 3. Wood is avail, it was $7/bundle on a holiday weekend. 4. It's shady so bring a jacket, but the sunshine is just at roadside if you want to be warm 5. No animals sited. From chipmunk to raccoons to bears. Didn't need a food safety container. 6. NO recycling, just garbage bins. If you want go recycle, take it home
I regret telling you about this hidden gem why am I even typing this right now!?. Lockaby is a simple campground pit toilets and hand-pumped well water. There aren't a ton of amenities and that's just perfect, because the campground itself is lovely. The sites are spread out beneath towering trees that keep the ground cool and shaded most of the day adding to that the high hills to the East and West and things never really heat up in the campground. That makes this place perfect for hot summer days down at the river which the campground is next to and long evenings relaxing by a fire that is just barely necessary due to the coolness of the air preserved by the trees. I REALLY shouldn't have told you about this!
This review is purely for the site manager STACEY. My partner and I found a spot one campsite over and we put our stuff down immediately. There was no reservation sticker and the space was completely clear. To even be sure we asked neighboring campsites if anyone had came during the day and they all said NO. They then said that Stacey runs all the campgrounds along the river and she is the site manager and said that if you aren't in your spot physically then it is up for grabs. Yikes, so we decided to play it safe and stay near our campsite. Well about 3 hours later around 6:15 this car drove up and this couple got out and said that the campsite was theirs and we needed to leave. We were confused and asked how and they said they had already reserved the place and paid. Then the site manager STACEY comes by and tells us we gotta leave. There was no reserved sign, the couple came pretty late, AND even though we were physically there we still got kicked out. ON top of all that we asked her if there was anywhere else we could camp because it was getting late and all the sites had looked filled up and she said no. We were on our own. The other campers saw what was happening and even they were shocked and angry of how this whole situation was handled. They even offered to have us stay in their campsites. What honestly probably happened was Stacey knew the couple or something because there wasn't any reservation. So if you are gonna camp just be warned that even though the campsite shows no indication or sign of it being reserved, Stacey, with an attitude, might come and kick you out in the evening. We will be in contact with someone higher up. She shouldn't be managing sites if she isn't courteous or organized with her job.
The best campsite is #11. That's the one you want to get. It has a private access route to the river that other sites don't have. Be warned, this site is known among regular yearly campers so reserve 1-2 months in advance.
Very pretty. But the camp grounds are really close to each other. Luckily we went and had no neighbors close to us.
Nice spot with multiple riverside campsites
Campsite is beautiful. Camp Host Dustin is terrible. It was a sad because we could have had a great camping trip.
