Disappointed! Not at the restaurant, but at myself for not having done my research enough for an afternoon tea place. The food that are served for an afternoon tea comes as no surprise for me: typical choice of tea, a couple of scones with clotted cream, jam and marmelade, crustless finger sandwiches and a random assortment of bite-sized sweet pastries. I expected to get these and I got them. However, I was not expecting a cloth less table top. Perhaps, now is the time to upgrade the bread basket in which the scones are served, and use linen napkins instead. My expectation of having afternoon tea is having tea poured from silver/fine china tea pots into delicate bone china cups. I was expecting an elegant 3-tiered serving plates, and dazzling silver cutlery over a white linen table top. All these form part of THE meal for a very special occasion. We got none of that. This is a very small place with tables size not big enough to have an afternoon tea for 4 people. I have to give credit for service, which was not outstanding, but the average polite and courteous kind. Food was good and fresh, but nothing spectacular as these are just egg & mayo sandwiches with thinly sliced cucumber, regular scones and sweet pastries. There is just absolutely no way to get this wrong. Tea selection is average and can be bought at the local supermarket, with hot chocolate and caramel milk being just bland.
Wow is this place the go to for amazing food and service!!! I even got a delicious chicken noodle soupe and a she roared pie for home. I cannot emphasize enough how lovely the people who work there are and the chef. Wowza!!! This is a price I am willing to pay for a brunch!! Not generic not greasy. Just fabulous !!
The best lunch in NDG! Highly recommended. They are busy, it is always a good idea to make a reservation ahead of time. But don't be afraid to walk in and ask. The tea and scones are a must to try. You won't regret it. The staff are friendly and the food is just amazing.
Honestly a gem of a place! The atmosphere is SO cozy and I love their scones!!! And they offer many dressings, all homemade, to go with the scones and they're delicious. Don't forget to reserve when you go as they can get quite busy.
Wonderful people and wonderful high tea. Very caring. The high tea was excellent - real craftsmanship. It is a tiny place and has its own charm. If you are looking for a traditional/vintage outlet for your tea, you might want to go somewhere else. You need a reservation for high tea. When we are in Montreal again, we will visit them for sure. 10/10
I had such a lovely experience here as always. The service is lovely and the staff are always so warm and welcoming. Food was delicious and home made. I had the chicken pot pie with scone and soup. Also comes with a little dessert at the end also made in house. Really can’t beat the taste, service and price. Must try for all!
We had a little event at the Gryphon D'Or and could not have been more pleased! We had looked at other venues but none compared to the Gryphon D'Or in terms of their customer service. They were so accommodating, flexible and friendly! The atmosphere is warm and cozy. The food is exquisite! Generous portions, great variety, excellent quality. I wholeheartedly recommend this little gem of a place!
We went for the afternoon tea, and it was a very cozy experience. The scones were literally freshly baked! There was a nice tea selection and tasty treats. I am looking forward to going back for more freshly baked scones or brunch. The service was great.
I was introduced to this amazing restaurant a week ago, and today was my third visit just to show you how amazing the food is. Today I brought my family of 5 and we had an amazing experience. One of the best brunches in Montreal and the service deserves more than 5 stars. We enjoyed the homemade type of brunch and will definitely be back!
A true gem in NDG. The homemade food on offer is superb matched by attentive and warm staff. An absolute must for anyone who enjoys tea time in an intimate atmosphere. Once you go you are truly hooked!!
