I can see why this is a local favourite. This is an unpretentious, magical little eclectic place. It was a top pick and I’m glad we managed to get in! We were impressed with the chef, how he managed all the little plates as it was getting busy. All local, some foraged ingredients!!, and all thoughtfully put together. The selection of drinks-wow. I wish I wasn’t pregnant. The flavours were impeccable, service was friendly, personable, warm and on point 100 percent. We were impressed with everything. We left with happy memories, full tummies and wanting to come back to experience it all over again. I can’t wait to drive 800km to visit this place again.
We had some roasted chicken and french cassoulet, tasted their homemade ketchup with fries. The restaurant has one side of french window met with the noon-sun, it’s located in a neighborhood basically local and takes a small driving distance from old Quebec. But they do deserve more customers come over even during brunch. It’s a delightful place to organize yourself together.
AMAZING FOOD, SERVICE, ATMOSPHERE, PRICE, COVID SAFE One of our fav restaurants in Canada from our 2 weeks trip. The ingredients are fresh, full with flavor, and beautiful presentation. Price is extremely reasonable. We’ve had $200 for 2 meals here and doesn’t taste as good as Le Renard eat la Chouette. We have to thank our waiter, Yvandre? Sorry if I butchered the spelling his name, he said it’s like Ivan and Andre. He was attentive, patient, explained the whole menu to us since it’s not in Eng and told me which ones are Gluten free, and even recommended us to order less because the portion is quite generous! Amazing!!! The oysters is the best we’ve had, we had to order a second time, and we tried 3 places in Canada. The slaw salad that comes with the seafood platter is phenomenal, and the perfect balance with the seafood platter. You cannot judge by the look. Love the atmosphere, we sat in front of the kitchen so we can watch the chef prep our food. But really had to recommend Yvanedre, he’s welcoming, friendly, not pushy, we thought he was the owner because he made us feel right at home. If I can make suggestions, would love to see the menu in Eng, it is available in the electronic menu, but if it’s on the paper menu, we’d be able to follow along when he’s explaining the details of the menu. Also, love the chef, but would love to see kitchen staff wearing face mask when prepping the food. The chef does put on face mask when he comes out and bring our food which is another wondering aspect of the restaurant, when does the chef personally come out to explain the dish to you? Here they do! but because we’re in the peak of pandemic, it’d make me feel more comfortable if he’s also wearing masks or a mouth shield when making the food. He did taste the food and smell of the ingredients to check for freshness which just shows how dedicated he is to making the best dishes, so it made me understand why it’d be difficult to wear mask. So just thought I’d ask : 10 stars for Le Renard art La Chouette Thank you for also offer gluten free options! Everything we order tasted beautiful, including the tea: Oysters Seafood platter comes with salad Charcuterie plate Oolong/Jasmin tea
Tasting menu is a great value, 70 for 7 course, and the portions are BIG!!! If you come with a friend, one can try tasting, and another can try their pizza.
We had such a good time! If you enjoy food and talking about food, have a seat at the comfortable bar that overlooks directly into the kitchen space. The chef Sarah was so nice, sharing her inspirations, technique, and ingredient choices. The waitress really seemed to know her stuff when it comes to wine, and recommended a great bottle. We were told there had been a recent shift in the focus of the cuisine, being now more middle-eastern inspired, but with a twist, and local products. All in all a casual and memorable night!
An enjoyable dinner service featuring classical French cuisine modernized with some Quebec touches. The dining space is welcoming that is domestic meets industrial. Our server was very courteous and patient to explain the menu in detail in English. Food delivers fully, is beautifully prepared, and tastes delicious!
We had a fantastic dinner here on our first night in Quebec. Our first course was the large mixed charcuterie platter. I have a big appetite but there is so much food in this dish that I wouldn't recommend it for a party of two but for 4 or more it would be the perfect size. Smaller version of this platter is available for half the price. All cheeses soft and hard are local from Quebec. Mix of terrines, pates and dry sausage were all very tasty. There was also the most amazing tasting pickles I've ever had that were served along with this platter. For our second course we chose two dishes from the small plates section of the menu. We ordered the clam salad and duck hearts dishes. Duck hearts were were served with mushrooms, artichokes and an amazing bone marrow sauce that was so good we decided to come back again for our last meal couple of days later. Our second meal was equally as good with menu having slight variations. Our first meal was on a quiet week night while second on a busy Friday night. I recommend making a reservation. We sat at a table for both meals but you have an option of sitting at the bar overlooking an open kitchen watching the chef perform her magic. For our second meal we went with the smaller mixed charcuterie platter and 3 small dishes to share including once again the duck hearts. We also ordered the smoked trout over bread pudding dish which was very interesting and reminded us of a lox and cream cheese bagel. Highlight of the night was the Boudin dish which including blood sausage as well as a sausage stuffed with lobster in a spicy sauce. Both meals were so good. This is one of the best restaurants I've had the pleasure of eating anywhere in the world.
I was there with my group of friends, it was a group of 16 ppl, they suggested a set meal with $20/adult and 10$/child, we had a beautiful buffet of pizza and sides salad and fries! If you enjoy thin crusted and specialty pizza then you must come to this place! They also make their own cheese and salami ! This place may not be in the tourist area, but it’s worth the 10 min drive to get there! We had a great time with the wonderful host! Pics to follow !
Hands down the best dining experience we had in Quebec City. Maybe because we had personal attention from the owner Louie but we did not know him and he treated us like royalty. He owns the butcher shop down the street so anything with smoked meat or sausage was excellent. The best dish I ate was snails, clams and anchovies on bread. It's tastes as good as as it sounds. A wonderful place with great people. You won't have a better time in QC.
The staff were so incredibly kind and thoughtful. We tried a few wines and then had oysters and the cassoulet which was enough for two.
